The Annual General Meeting held at 2pm on 20 March 2014
in the St Magnus Centre

2 Minutes
The minutes of the 2013 AGM were approved, following the proposal for acceptance by Sally MacKintosh and seconded by Tim Wright.
3 Matters arising
None
4Reports
(i)The Chairman’s Reporthad previously been circulated to all members. This was
approved and proposed for acceptance by Pam Woodcock and seconded by Tim Wright.
(ii)The Treasurer reported an opening balance at 1 February 2013 of £863.04, income of
£986.06, expenditure of £922.38 with a balance of £856.72 at 31 January 2014.
5Oral Group Reports:
Amblers – in Kate’s absence Allan commented that the group had met once per month for most of the year.
Anglers – Dave stood down from leading this group and no member has come forward to take his place.
Archaeology – Richard has good intentions of re-starting this group after Easter.
Art – Kim reported that this group meets weekly in the Stenness Hall with members going outdoors sketching in the summer months.
Bird Watching – Ken listed the Bu in Orphir, Scapa Bay, Hunda, Stromness, Ring of Brodgar, Barnhouse hide, Westray and Shapinsay as places they had visited this year. Membership is around 20 with an average of 12 to 14 people attending each outing.
Botany – Sally reported that this group has been in a dormant phase since Easter but some members have expressed an interest in starting up again.
Craft – this group meets weekly and recently had a day in Marwick learning how to make very attractive baskets taught by Sue Topp.
Family History – this self-help group met in the Library and will continue under Richard’s leadership offering help with research.
Music – about 12 members meet regularly. Themes covered include the sea, water, birds, trees and now going on to women composers,
Orkney Straw Work – Sandra leads this group of 5 members who meet on Friday mornings.
Photography – Tim’s group of 15 members meets monthly. The results of their work were seen at the General Meeting in February. Their latest show is on the website. John Graham was not at the meeting but his Photographic group also meets monthly and he is looking for new members.
Play Reading – this group meet on alternate Friday mornings. Diana talked about the forthcoming Shakespeare Day in April. They have now affiliated with the Kirkwall Arts Club under the name of Third Age Players. They would welcome new members.
Scrabble – 6/8 folk meet on a Friday morning. Come and join them!
U3A Folk Band – describe themselves as a very vigorous group out to enjoy themselves. They meet fortnightly and would welcome new members.
5Election of Committee
Richard stood down as Chairman having served his term of 3 years. He reported that he had thoroughly enjoyed this time. He then called for nominations to the Committee.
