Orthopedic Program 2014

Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital has been providing rehabilitation services for over forty years. The Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program at Roger C. Peace is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

Inpatient Admissions

The Inpatient Orthopedic Program at Roger C. Peace can admit you from any hospital. You should be willing to participate in therapy and have a sage discharge plan with family support to return home or community setting.

Roger C. Peace cannot admit patients on a ventilator, patients with active psychosis or medical problems that prevent participation in the therapy program. For these patients, Roger C. Peace will provide referrals to a more appropriate program, such as a post-acute unit, assisted living facility, medically skilled nursing home or outpatient services. Roger C. Education and Treatment

The Orthopedic Program will provide education to you and your care giver about:

  • Fall Prevention
  • Weight Management
  • Joint Protection
  • Hip Precautions
  • Lifting & Bending Techniques
  • Support for patient & care giver
  • Pressure sores

Therapy

Most therapy sessions are one on one. You are the most important member of the team along with your care giver. Care givers are expected to attend scheduled training sessions and be active members of the treatment team.

Therapy Schedule

You are expected to attend two sessions of physical therapy and two sessions of occupational therapy each weekday for 45 minutes each session. Speech therapy sessions are rarely needed, but if ordered by the doctor, the sessions would be up to 45 minutes daily. You will attend therapy for three hours a day, 5 days a week or 180 minutes per day

Characteristics

The Orthopedic Program discharged 141 patients in 2014. The average age of the patients was 55years. There 3 patients age 18 or younger discharged from the program last year. On the average it took 14 days in the hospital for patients to reach their therapy goals. Nine out of ten people were very pleased with the services they received. Eight out of ten patients were able to return home from Roger C. Peace. Men represented 59% of the patient population for the Orthopedic Program and women were 41% in 2014.

Discharge

In the unlikely event you experience a medical emergency; the acute care hospital is connected to Roger C. Peace on the first floor. Twelve patients from the Orthopedic Program were transferred to the acute care hospital in 2014.

When you have completed your treatment plan and it no longer medically necessary for you to be in Roger C. Peace, your case manager and physician will assist you with the follow-up plan of care. Ninety days after orthopedic patients were discharged from the hospital a phone survey was completed. Nine out of ten patients were able to return to most of their previous activities and reported no medical problems

Outpatient Services

Outpatient Services include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Neuropsychology, and Case Management. Each outpatient therapy session is for one hour two or three time a week depending on the individual needs of the patient.

Location

Roger C. Peace is located in Greenville, South Carolina on the campus of Greenville Health System University Medical Center. This convenient location offers 24 hour services that are easy and immediately accessible including diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, specialty consults and pharmacy services, Critical response to a clinicians order is immediate. Non-critical responses may take longer than 24 hours depending on the time it takes for the procedure to be completed. If emergent care or hospitalization in the acute setting is needed this is also on site since Roger C. Peace is a facility within the hospital system.
