Marching Elephants exists to create positive social and environmental change through sustainable enterprises. Since launching in 2016 this For Purpose Businesshas incubated and launched BrandsForGood.com, CarlRide.com andOneNightStandSleepwear.com.au. We’re currently engaged in several other initiatives at varying stages of maturity.

The Marching Elephants team includes experienced entrepreneurs, business managers, creatives and technologists. Most team members arebased in Melbourne, some in Byron Bay and one in Canberra.

About the position

Marching Elephants is growing and needs the support of an experienced and capable administrator able to focus particularly on payroll and finance tasks. As the workload of the team expands there may be opportunity to contribute beyond administration work, for example in business analysis, copywriting and project analysis tasks.

Responsibilities of this role will initially include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaboration – work constructively with the Marching Elephants and Brands For Good teams and with new businesses as they come on board
  • Complete monthly payroll
  • Manage Accounts Payable/ Accounts Receivable
  • General bookkeeping, account reconciliation and monthly reporting
  • Introduce and maintain administration practicesappropriate for the size and complexity of the various businesses
  • Assist in uploading and maintaining the content on the various business websites
  • Assist in general record keeping, secure and logical file management etc.
  • Liaise with clients, staff,suppliers in a professional and courteous manner
  • Help to manage premisesand IT
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail, including email enquiries to each business’s support address
  • Assist with the preparation and running of meetings and functions
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to staff, clients, and businesses

About you

Ideally holding aCertificate III in Business Administration you will be able to demonstrate the following capabilities:

  • Full competence in Xero and Xero Payroll
  • Competence across both Apple (Pages, Number, Keynote) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) products
  • Previous accounts and payroll experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Some copywriting experience would be beneficial
  • Readiness to learn new skills, eg presenting products on BrandsForGood.com
  • The ability to take direction and execute tasks accurately with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Strong organisational and problem solving skills
  • Multi-tasking ability and the ability to be flexible, proactive and meet deadlines
  • High level of self-motivation, goal orientation and resourcefulness
  • Honesty and professionalism
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in an administration/reception/payroll position
  • Knowledge of Payroll Tax, Superannuation and PAYG regulations and procedures is preferable

Classification:Administration

Hours: 0.8 or full time, this role can also be managed via a job share arrangement

Tenure:Permanent

Location: This position is based in Collingwood but the team may move to the Melbourne CBD during the next year

Conditions:Flexible working arrangements are available, for example job share, working school hours only, working from home for part ofeach week
