SUMMARY:
The Teacher is responsible for creating flexible class environments where the students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for academic/intellectual, spiritual, physical and psychological growth. This is accomplished by planning, organizing and implementing a course and grade level appropriate instructional program that stresses learning, leadership and Christian principles in accordance with Red Bird Mission policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Educates students by planning and developing courses of study according to curriculum guidelines; school and accreditation standards.
- Tailors course of study by developing modifications for several levels of academic ability and previous achievement.
- Develops and presents lesson plans by using a variety of techniques, including lectures, projects, exhibits, field trips, audiovisual and library resources, computers, and the internet.
- Monitors, assists, corrects, and grades student results by preparing assignments and tests for in-school preparation and homework; conducting standardized tests in accordance with school policies and accreditation standards.
- Implements by instruction and example, the school’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, objectives, and motto: “Enter To Learn – Leave To Serve.”
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy educational environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents/guardians concerning all aspects of their development. Keeps parents/guardians informed by maintaining records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation; reporting on all elements of student development at parent-teacher conferences, both regularly scheduled and as-needed.
- Updates job knowledge by attending faculty meetings; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Works and collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, models, objectives and methods.
- Enhances school's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- In conjunction with the Development Director, schedules itineration trips, represents Red Bird Mission/Clinic and it’s ministries in various venues, completes all necessary paperwork and follow-up actions, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to successfully function in this position.
Education, Certification, & Experience
- Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of school and accreditation institution(s)
- Single subject teaching credential or certification if teaching a specialized subject, preferred and/or in process of obtaining
- State of Kentucky Teacher Certification
- Relevant teaching experience
- Knowledge of relevant technology
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple to complex correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to students, parent/guardians, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. These skills are necessary for the grading and evaluation process.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative ofthose an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. General classroom environment: Work requires standing or walking approximately 90% of the time. The working environment is favorable to teaching. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed, but not limited to, a classroom environment.
