Business Arising from the Minutes:
• Wearing Hats to School
→ tabled to April 5, 2017 meeting
→ There were concerns brought forward about reports that hats were being abruptly removed from boys' heads in the hall, waiting areas... Just looking for clarification on school policy regarding teachers removing clothing from kids and whether boys may travel with hats on to their classrooms/lockers through the hallways before shedding winter outerwear altogether at their cubby/locker? May boys put hats on when dressing to go out of doors or do they need to wait to put hats on until they cross the threshold?
· Admin stated that our policy is to allow students to go up to the classroom and once at the lockers they put both the coats and hats away. At the same time, when students are getting dressed to go outside – students are permitted to wear hats inside as they exit the building. To be honest – wearing of hats is not permitted during the instructional part of the day and during noon lunch time.
• Prayers at School
→ tabled to April 5, 2017 meeting
→ It was brought to the attention of the administration in reference to the school being cognitive of being as inclusive to non-Christian cultural practices and traditions as more and more of our students come from multicultural backgrounds
· Admin acknowledged that we would make any accommodations necessary for students who are needing quiet places in support of their cultural practices and beliefs. Also, a conversation took place in reference to religion in schools and teachers being mindful of all cultural beliefs.

• SIP Monitor Report – presented by Angela Ketch
→ Focus on formative assessments and less on summative assessments
→ We have had Professional Learning opportunities to gain a better idea of co-constructing where students become involved in their learning. Then students will know exactly what is expected of them and what they have to do
→ We have a focus on staff leadership – where the grade levels meet every other week and members of the staff leadership committee help to grow and open the lines of communication
• School Improvement Review (Collaboration Report) – presented by Angela Ketch
→ Presented an overview of the document and talked about the process, who was involved
→ We talked about the importance of the document and how we the school were taking it seriously as it was going to help move the school forward as a K-8 school
→ We looked at where our focus (through the consultation with the External Team) would be on formative assessments, constructing criteria, UNB Learn to Lead, & lesson plans being more consistent within all the grade levels
• Tree Grant Video – Pat presented overview of grade 3 service project
→ Angela and Pat showed the group that the grade 3 class (service project) has put in an application for a Tree Grant to help finance the planting of trees and shrubs around the school.
