AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THESPARTANBURG DAY SCHOOL BOYS SWIM TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2015 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Spartanburg Day School swim team of Spartanburg County took top honors at the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA)state competition held at the Augusta Aquatic Center in Augusta, Georgia, on Saturday, October 10, 2015; and

Whereas, the Spartanburg Day School Griffins captured the team’s third consecutive swim trophy, asweet “threepeat” victory for 2013, 2014, and 2015; and

Whereas, to the cheers of their fans, the Griffins finished in first place with a score of 209, a victory made all the sweeter as the Lady Griffins took top honors alongside the boys for the third year in a row as well; and

Whereas, Spartanburg Day boasted thirtyeight personal best times and broke eight school records during the state meet; and

Whereas, senior Davis Kleman, who was named to All-State team, and junior Geoff McVey led the team, breaking six school records between them. Along with teammates senior J.J. Smith and freshman William Owens,they broke the records for the 200meter medley relay and the 400meter free style relay; and

Whereas, in her first year as head coach, Ashli Gaines was named Coach of the Year and, along withher skilled coaching staff, maximized her own athletic prowess and training to mold a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both in and out of the water; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the respect and credit that theSpartanburg Day School swimmers have garnered for their school and their community and look to hear of their future success in the years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Spartanburg Day School boys swimteam, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2015 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Upper School Administrator Jack MacMullan and Coach Ashli Gaines.
