“Building a Better You” Project (120 points)
Adapted from the FCCLA Power of One National Program
Objective: The “Building a Better You” project is designed to help students find and use their personal power. Students will set a personal goal, work to achieve it, and enjoy the results. The skills students learn by completing this project will help them now and in the future: in school, with friends and family, as well as in the work place. This project has been broken up into three manageable sections. Students will receive a separate grade for each section. However, at the end of this assignment students will turn in a notebook with all sections completed. Students will follow the FCCLA planning process below to clearly map out their project.
Section 1: Action Plan – Due______
Identify a Concern: In oneparagraph addressing the following topics;
Identify a life concern that is this important to you.
Explain why this is a concern for you.
Narrow your concern to specific actions that can lead to a realistic and attainable project.
Set a Goal:Write a quality goal using the S.M.M.A.R.T. goal method. Before writing your plan evaluate your goal by asking yourself (no documentation necessary for the evaluation process);
Is the goal realistic with the timeavailable?
Is it an in-depth project?
Areyou assuming full responsibility for the project?
Are the project’s objectives clearly stated?
Are the planned activities meaningful and significant to the project?
Form a Plan: Devote one section to each of the following topics. Information can be shared using charts, graphs, and/or written descriptions;
List steps that need to be taken to accomplish your goal.
Describe the “who, what, where, when, and how”.
List the abilities, skills, and knowledge required on your part.
List other available resources, such as people, places, publications, and funds.
Create a workable timetable to keep track of your progress.
List possible barriers you might face, and develop plans if necessary.
Develop a reward system to recognize your accomplishments along the way.
Section 2: Action Check-In –Due______
Evaluate your progress by answering the following questions in complete sentences;
Has your goal been thought out enough to complete the requirements for the assignment?
Will you be able to complete your goal with your current resources and time requirements?
Are there any additional resources that can beutilized to help you accomplish your goal?
What challenges or obstacles do you have to faces while working on your goal?
What will you do to overcome the challenge?
Section 3: Act/Follow-Up - Due______
Act: Document your progress throughout the process by creating a personal memory book. Expectable forms of documentation in your book are;
Personal writings
Action logs
Progress reports
Pictures
Other forms of documentations may be approved by your instructor
Follow-Up: Answer the following question in a one page reflection of your experiences while completing this assignment.
What did your learn?
What were the most successful parts of your project?
Why do you feel they were the most successful parts?
What were some of the challenges that you faced while working on this project?
What would you change if you repeated the project?
