Additional areas of expertise are in Ceramics, Art Education, Gallery Technology, Murals and Community Art, and Photography.

4. Discussion of background and rationale (if needed).
Many of our Studio Art majors are intent on transferring to four-year programs within the California State University and University of California systems. This degree offers them an expedient way to do so by focusing on taking courses that will be articulated and accepted by these institutions. Additionally, we are confident that by offering this degree program students will be well prepared to continue their educational pursuits in this field.
Over the past year, the Studio Art program (housed within the larger Fine Arts department), has met regularly to discuss the merits and appropriateness of the Associate in Studio Art with an Emphasis in Art History to our program and institution as a whole. We have determined that this degree is distinct enough from our traditional Studio Arts AA degree and offers a valuable choice for students whose educational goals are to transfer and continue their studies at a four-year institution. Having made this decision we sought (and received) the approval from our Fine Arts department chair for submitting for approval this Associate in Studio Art with and Emphasis in Art History degree.
