Motion Graphic Self Portrait

Using Adobe Premiere

______

You will be creating a motion graphic about yourself. Using the Motion Graphic Self Portrait form that you filled out about yourself you will need to animate the typography to music. You may use any of the following in your project:

  • Video (you can download appropriate video from Vimeo or Youtube by using Freemake Video Downloader, you can also record yourself using the point and shoot cameras against the green screen)
  • Imagery (photographs, hand drawn artwork, computer generated artwork – however, all artwork must be done by you.)
  • Graphic elements (bold stripes, shapes, or any other abstract designs you wish to create using Illustrator or Photoshop)
  • Your motion graphic should be at least one minute long.
  • Text and Instrumental Music are both required in the final project

STEP 1 – begin to collect & save to your motion graphic folder:

  • Samples of fonts you wish to incorporate into your motion graphic – it’s good to use more than one font style
  • Instrumental music you want to use
  • Any video clips you wish to use
  • Any imagery you may need for the background
  • Any graphic elements you have designed (be sure to save these as a Photoshop document to preserve the transparent background)

STEP 2 – open Adobe Premiere and create a new Project

  • We will create the project settings together in class, if you missed this part, I will help you individually in class.
  • Begin to import all of your collected materials (images, video, music, etc)
  • Drag and drop music to Audio Track 1
  • Drag and drop any images or video to Video Track 1or

Graphic Arts

Rendering out of Premiere

Rendering refers to the process of taking a computer image or file and converting it into another format and/or applying graphic modifications to that image.

You will need to render your movie out into a QuickTime Movie file format in order to be able to take it out of the computer and onto a disk or flash drive. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open your project in Premiere and make sure that the TIMELINE is selected (you will know it is selected if there is a yellow outline)
  2. Go to FILE – EXPORT
  3. Select MEDIA
  4. A pop-up window will appear, in the lower left hand corner of the window make sure that the two white triangles are extended all the way to both ends.
  5. Click the drop down menu for FORMAT – select QuickTime Movie
  6. Go to OUTPUT NAME: Click on the yellow line and select YOUR FOLDER, hit SAVE
  7. Click OK and wait for ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER to open up.
  8. You will see your project listed in the pop-up window, click on the START QUEUE
  9. At the bottom of this window you will begin to see a yellow scroll bar appear during the render process. BE PATIENT IT TAKES SOME TIME!
  10. As soon as you see a green check mark next to your project name, it is finished and you can close out of Adobe Media Encoder.
  11. Go to your folder and right click on your rendered movie and open it in VLC Media Player to see if it plays properly.

Once you have properly rendered out movie, please upload to your Google Drive and share it with me at

If you would like to take a copy home, you can use a flash drive or a CD to burn it to.
