Week of September 5 - 9, 2016
I can't believe we're one month into our new school year. Time is flying! Progress reports go out this Thursday, September 8th. Please watch for those. Some grades aren't where I know you want them, IF this is the case for your child, we still have five weeks left before report cards go out. Many grades will be given. We just need to make sure the children are doing their very best all of the time!
I'm sending home a list of websites with your children in Tuesday's folders. This list will hopefully help with studying and provide a few safe sites for students who want to research the net.
This site will be updated weekly. You can also join remind 101. The remind 101 will be texted out when there is a change of schedule or an important event coming up. I will not send out daily homework reminders. Homework for each class will be written on the board. All students need to write this down each day.
Reading -This week, we are reading "Elisa's Diary". Our vocabulary words are: opponents, brutal, supposedly, gorgeous, embarrassed, obvious, typically, preliminary, sweeping, and officially. Our focus skill is determining theme in a passage. On Friday, we will have a G2test on this story.
OnTuesday, September 6th, I will give the students their vocabulary workshop story with the vocabulary from the story (unit 3). We will practice the words, definitions, synonyms and antonyms daily. We will have aG1 check-up on Thursday, September 8th, on the synonyms and antonyms. On Tuesday, September 13th, we will have a G1 (fill in the blank) with vocabulary words in context and on Friday, September 16th, we will have a G2test on these vocabulary words.
All children have completed his/her STAR reading test. I've sent home information regarding your child's AR goal. Please remember to read, read, read! Every child should have two books with him/her at all times. Books can be borrowed and taken home from my library, just remember to return them. We will take the STAR test this week and AR goals will be assigned. AR goes in the grade book as two G2 grades - one for comprehension and one for goal. The deadline for AR this nine weeks is Wednesday, October 5th.
English - Wewill continue with chapter 3thisweek. We will continue reviewing nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. We will also discuss prepositions, nouns used as adjectives and personification in text. We will have a G1 quiz on Friday, September 9th.
