Course Description: This course focuses on the preparation for the Advanced Placement Exam in French Language. AP French Language is intended for qualified students who are interested in completing studies comparable in content and in difficulty to a full-year course in Advanced French Composition and Conversation at the third-year college level. It is important that students understand both the serious dedication of a college level course and the quality of the material studied. This course is taught in French. Students are expected to use French within the classroom setting at all times.
Learning Objectives:
*To have students become proficient in interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communication in preparation for the AP French Language and Culture Exam.
*To stress reading, writing, speaking and listening through each of these three modes of communication.
*To enrich the students’ cultural knowledge and experience with the Francophone world through a comparison with their own cultural experience of the six course themes(Global Challenges,Science and Technology, Contemporary Life, Personal and Public Identities, Families and Communities, Beauty and Aesthetics).
Learning Resources: With the emergence of technology as a tool for learning, South Forsyth High School will be utilizing various resources to assist with instruction, including online textbooks, recordings and interactive websites. Authentic text in printed and electronic form will be used. Authentic language audio/video with different French accents will also be employed. Students will be recorded at different times during the year and feedback will be provided.

In addition to web based instructional tools, this course will also have several classroom sets of IB-test specific practice textbooks, grammar and literature textbooks. Students are encouraged to bring their laptops and electronic tablets to class.

Makeup Work: Make up work is defined as work assigned during a student's absence, not work assigned prior to an absence. The student has five (5) school days upon returning to school to complete make-up work. The teacher has the discretion to grant a longer period to make up work, if there are extenuating circumstances.
Grading Calculations:
EOCT Course Average = 40% (1st Sem. Course Work) + 40% (2nd Sem. Course Work) + 20% EOCT
1st & 2nd Semester Course Work = 75% Summative + 25% Formative
Non-EOCT Course Average = 50% (1st Sem. Course Work) + 50% (2nd Sem. Course Work)
1st and 2nd Semester Course Work = 75% Summative = 25% Formative

Grading Policy:
A = 90 – 100
B = 80 – 89
C = 70 – 79
Failing = Below 70
*Formative Assessments include, but are not limited to homework, class work, practice tests, rough drafts, and sections of projects/ research papers/presentations.
*Summative Assessments include, but are not limited to unit tests, final projects, final essays, final research papers, and final presentations.
