FACTS and FAQ - You NEED to KNOW before coming to MGGState:

You will pick up your T-shirt at this time. You will wear this during rehearsals and if you win, during the year at events.

Q - Can my child wear make-up?

A - This is a natural pageant which means we do not allow makeup, false eyelashes, hair pieces or extensions, on any child between the ages of 3-9. They need to have a "clean face". Keep hair simple. The do not need "hair jewelry". Bows and headbands are fine but they do not need the rhinestone beads that hairdressers sometimes add to children's hair when they go to a salon. They also should not wear fingernail polish.

Ages 10-12can wear ONLY the following - mascara, light powder, light blush, light lip gloss or Vaseline. NO DARK LIPSTICK OR LIP GLOSS. Hair is fine down or up, straight or curled. Keep in mind, you should style your child's hair the way it looks best on them.

Ages 13-Mrs. can wear age appropriate makeup and style their hair as they choose.

Q - What type of dress and shoes should my daughter or I wear?

A -Ages 3-9 can wear short, long or T length dresses. The most important thing to remember is that the dress needs to be in good repair and fit the child. The dress can be a color of your choice, but lean toward a pastel color. Black or very dark colors have tendencies to mask your child's natural beauty and make them look too old in their division. They can wear pageant dresses - not heavily stoned, flower girl or party type dresses. Some Sunday Best or Easter type dresses also do very well. We do not recommend gloves or shawls. Strapless or spaghetti straps normally do no score well in this age. Off the shoulder or sleeveless with little scoop necklines seem to score better. In 7-9, some halter type dresses are fine, but keep it age appropriate. Simple earrings (if they wear them) and usually no necklaces, rings or bracelets. Shoes in the 3-4 division are typically white with little white socks. 5-9 are typically white or clear. No need for dyed shoes to match their dress. *This is what you will see most of, it does not imply this is what will win.

Ages - 10 - Mrs. wear long dresses that are typically pageant or prom type. The most important thing to remember is that the dress needs to be in good repair and fit the girl. In 10-12, lean away from black. It can make the girls look too old for their division. Shoes should be appropriate for the dress. Be careful with the height of the heel on the shoe. If the heel is higher than what the girl normally wears, allow her to practice or walk in them BEFORE arriving to the pageant.

Ages 13-15. The color of the dress is your choice but should look good on the contestant. The most important thing to remember is that the dress needs to be in good repair and fit the contestant. Ages 13-15 typically wear some sort of ball gown or A-line dresses. High slits in 13-15 are not recommended. Shoes should be appropriate for the dress. Be careful with the height of the heel on the shoe. If the heel is higher than what the girl normally wears, allow her to practice or walk in them BEFORE arriving to the pageant.

Ages 16-Mrs. The color of the dress is your choice but should look good on the contestant. The most important thing to remember is that the dress needs to be in good repair and fit the contestant. Shoes should be appropriate for the dress. Be careful with the height of the heel on the shoe. If the heel is higher than what the girl normally wears, allow her to practice or walk in them BEFORE arriving to the pageant.

Q - What type of casual wear do the contestants wear?

A-All contestants ages 3-Mrs. are to wear BLUE JEANS which can be long, Capri, or cropped. No shorts. You can choose the type of shirt/top keeping it age appropriate. Color and style are up to you however no exposed midriffs on any age will be allowed. Shoes are your choice.

Q- Will my contestant speak on stage?

A - Ages 3-9 will not have private interview or speak on stage.

Ages 10-Mrs. will introduce themselves on stage during casual wear. Example: "Hi, I am Jane Doe, contestant number #1".

Ages 13-Mrs. will also have a 3 min. private interview on Saturday morning. Dress should be interview suit, Sunday dress or skirt and top. We do not recommend slacks or pant suits for interview.

Q- What is my child or myself judged on during the competition?

A - Ages 3-4 Beauty score (on stage in dress) - are judged more on personality while on stage than their actual stage presence. Parents can walk with their child in this group with no points being taken away nor will points be added if the child walks by themselves.

Personality, overall appearance and facial beauty combined will total their "beauty" score. The same applies to casual wear - Personality plays a heavier part as it will be more up beat music and they can walk faster and show they are having fun! The scores of "beauty" and "casual wear" will make up their divisional score which is what determines the "DIVISIONAL QUEEN". Hitting every X on stage does not add or take away points from the score.

Ages 5-6 -Beauty score (on stage in dress) are judged on personality and stage presence while on stage .Personality, overall appearance and facial beauty combined will total their "beauty" score. The same applies to casual wear - Show that personality! Up beat music and a faster walk to show they are having fun! The scores of "beauty" and "casual wear" will make up their divisional score which is what determines the "DIVISIONAL QUEEN". Hitting every X on stage does not add or take away points from the score.

Ages 7-12 - Beauty score (on stage in dress) - Personality (smile), stage presence (eye contact with judges, confidence, overall appearance and facial beauty make up the "beauty score". Casual wear - Show that personality! Up beat music and a faster walk to show they are having fun! The scores of "beauty" and "casual wear" will make up their divisional score which is what determines the "DIVISIONAL QUEEN". Hitting every X on stage does not add or take away points from the score.

13-Mrs. - Personal interview - The questions in interview will come directly from the contestant's entry form. No political or current event questions will be asked. Eye contact, personality, complete answers to questions, and overall appearance will make up the interview score. Beauty (evening gown) - Personality (smile), stage presence (eye contact with judges, confidence, overall appearance and facial beauty make up the "beauty score". Casual wear - Show that personality! Up beat music and a faster walk to show they are having fun! The scores of "interview", "beauty" and "casual wear" will make up their divisional score which is what determines the "DIVISIONAL QUEEN".

Talent is an optional and offered to ages 10-Mrs. Time limit of 2 mins. Ability to entertain, quality of performance, stage presence, and overall appearance combined equals their score. There is one talent winner per age group - ages 10-Mrs. and one Overall Talent winner. The talent score is NOT added to the divisional or overall score.

Photogenic is an optional offered to each age group. The picture can be black/white or color and any size (no larger than a 11x14). These must be turned in at registration on Friday night. The should show personality and can be a head shot or full body pose. Photos are judged on overall appeal, facial beauty.*Photogenic is required when contestants are competing for the OVERALL TITLE. The photogenic score is added to the beauty and casual wear score to = the overall score.

Q - If my child wins, is she or am I allowed to compete in other pageants?

A -Yes. We do not have a "no compete clause" . We encourage girls to compete in Miss America - Miss Georgia pageants as well as the Outstanding Teen division, Coed and GA Teen USA. We do ask that each parent or queen inform our office as to which pageants they will be competing in. We do have an agreement that each newly crowned Queen/Parents read and sign BEFORE leaving the State competition. It basically states that you agree to represent Miss Georgia Girl or America's Mrs. Georgia with respect and have appropriate behavior while wearing the crown and not. We provide an email address for continued communication during your reigning year and expect it to be checked per the agreement. Responses to emails are required within the time frame indicated in the email. We will be happy to discuss this further via phone if needed.

Q - What do the contestants win at the State pageant?

A -Miss Georgia Girl and America's Mrs. Georgia has grown to be one of the most respected pageants in the state and soon to the Nation as America's National Girl and Woman begin in the spring of 2008.

Earning a title in the 2007-2008 pageant will be a very proud moment in your contestant's life. Along with recognition in several publications, web sites and through the state, they are also recognized by our state's Governor, Lt. Governor and Secretary of State.

One contestant in the 10-Mrs. divisions will be awarded the "Super Model with Style" by Super Models magazine. They will receive a beautiful crown and photo opportunities with the magazine. This contestant will also appear on our website as the 2002-2008 Super Model with Style winner. *This is not a MGG state title, but an award presented.

They will appear in parades, charity events, and festivals throughout the state. They will attend parties, fund raisers, and much more during their reign.
