Central Florida Chapter National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) and the National Center for Simulation (NCS) Conduct STEM/M&S Seminar for High School Teachers and Educators
NDIA and NCS conducted a seminar for approximately 40 of Florida’s high school teachers and educators. The seminar took place on 25-26 September at the Lockheed Martin facility at Global Innovation Circle, Orlando, Florida.
The objectives of the seminar were as follows:
n To familiarize high school teachers with STEM/M&S skill set requirements for the M&S Industry
n To show connectivity with the four year high school M&S Curriculum available on the NCS website
n To describe career opportunities in the M&S Industry
n To answer questions teachers may have regarding student preparation for STEM/M&S careers
Conducting the seminar were Ms. Elizabeth Burch, NDIA and President/CEO Dignitas Technologies, and Hank Okraski, NCS Education and Workforce Development Committee. Presenters were experts from industry, government and academia.
The agenda allowed for discussions among the participants. Industry briefers outlined skill set requirements and career opportunities for the simulation industry, and high school teachers presently teaching M&S described, with examples, their classroom experiences in teaching portions of the curriculum. Administrators from Orange and Seminole Counties outlined the status and plans for implementing the M&S curriculum and framework. The presentations can be found on the NCS and NDIA websites.
Feedback was very positive. This was the second of a series of seminars and the attendees felt that we should continue with the series with more hands-on activities at the next offering
The agenda for the seminar, which covered a wide range of modeling and simulation, is as follows:
