National Pingtung University of Science and Technology Guidelines of Selecting Superb TAs

1. With an aim to encourage prominent TAs, enhancing results of teaching, learning, and counseling, guidelines of selecting superb TAs are drawn in light of the TA implementation regulations.
2. By the end of every semester, the selection committee for superb TAs (the committee) is set up by the Office of Academic Affairs. The chairman is the dean of the Office of Academic Affairs and the members are stated as follows:
a. The directors of the Center for Teaching Excellence, the Registration Division, the Curriculum Division, and the General Academic Affairs Division are commissioners.
b. One teacher representative is chosen by each college. Among these delegates, the dean of the Office of Academic Affairs selects the commissioners who has obtained the title of teaching excellence from his/her college.
3. The selection of superb TAs includes two stages
In stage 1, the Center for Teaching Excellence reviews the materials or data listed below:
a. Twenty Percent of the total grade is counted according to the TA’s attendance toactivities provided by administrative and academicdepartments, such as training courses, workshops, lectures, and achievement presentations.
b. At the end of a semester, the course instructor will fill out an evaluation form on the TA, which counts 30%of the total grade.
c. The TA’s monthly work report and final report counts for 30% and 20%respectively.In addition, the preparation for a class as a TA and tutorial provided are deliberated.
In stage 2, the committee will reexamine all the candidates who are approved in stage 1 to finalizethe superb TAs. The number of elected TAs can not exceed 10% of the total members.
For encouraging teachers to get an active participation in the TA system, the committee of the reviewers nominates the teachers who involve the system actively and present an excellent achievement to be awarded in public.
4. The committee should be convened by Center for Teaching Excellence when a semester ends to select outstanding TAs. At the TA training workshop in the following semester, the elected TAs will be singled out for special praise in public and receive a certificate of award and prize or a trophy.
5. The outstanding TAs should take the invitation and attend the TA workshop in the following semester to share their experience as a TA.
6. Theguidelinesare approved by the Academic Affair Conference and authorized by the NPUST President; the procedure is identical when any amendment is required.
