TEPTO Meeting Minutes

October 3, 2016, 7:00 pm, TIS

Principal Reports:

Mr. Jim Dineen, Tolland Intermediate School:

  • New laptops and chrome books are being used
  • Writers Workshop Consultant Training
  • BASS assessments being done in October
  • NWEA has just been completed
  • All music ensembles have started
  • First whole school PBIS assembly
  • Coffee with Principal is October 19th
  • Student Council has started. Food drive will be the end of October
  • Morning announcements on the road. Mr. Dineen goes to different classrooms and the kids are involved in the announcements
  • STEM Scouts- a van will be at recess to provide kids information on the STEM scouts program in hopes to form a troop in town
  • 1 week a month will be multicultural week. September’s was Brazil

Mr. Tom Swanson, Birch Grove:

  • Principal Breakfasts are 1st Thursday of each month
  • CREC writing support has begun
  • End 68 Hours has started
  • BASS Assessment will be beginning of October
  • NWEA-computer reading and math assessments will be in October. National assessment.
  • Melissa McKee is the Math Supervisor for Math Program
  • Conferences will be 1st week in November
  • Mileage club has started as of October 3rd
  • Bus evacuation drills were conducted

Teacher/Staff Reports:

Birch Grove-Mrs. Beaulieu

  • Kindergarten – Falling into routines; numbers up to 10, counting; retelling stories; instruction/guided reading; weather unit
  • 1st grade – Narrative/small moments; addition and subtraction to 10; living things and neighborhoods
  • 2nd grade – Long vowels; narratives; place value and addition to 1,000; rocks/geos science unit

Tolland Intermediate School-Mrs. Beaulieu

  • 3rd grade –Writing narratives/small moments; mental math and estimation; basic math facts; forces in motion for science
  • 4th grade – First draft/narrative/realistic fiction; finished recycling unit part 1; soggy paper science inquiry; will begin switching classes the end of October for science and social studies; estimation strategy for math; identify themes in reading
  • 5th grade – Finishing narrative piece using chrome books; reading the book loser/learning conduct group discussion; multi digit multiplication and long division; earth/moon/sun science unit; map skills and creating own continent

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Beginning balance was $49,960 and funds raised for 2017-2018 is $7,195.

Fundraisers:

  • Ice Cream Social- another successful year
  • Mileage Club- StartedOctober 3rd at Birch Grove.
  • TIS Mileage Club has 2 chairs, will be starting soon
  • Lyman Pies – 10/3-10/17. Orders will be ready before Thanksgiving.
  • Staff Appreciation is October 26th
  • Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe – December 3rd at Birch Grove.
  • Fall Book Fairs –TIS book fair will be first week in November and Birch Grove first week in December.
  • Amazon smile provides percentage to PTO when you order on Amazon
  • October 6th is High School Volleyball Fundraiser at Camille’s

Tolland Board of Education:

  • November 8th is voting for the $9 million bond question. Work provided to TIS and TMS if passes. Grants would be applied
  • Open Choice-Dr. Willett is happy to meet and discuss with any parent. We would be working with CREC. Would be grades K-2.
  • October 19th is first assessment workshop
  • Budget Workshop is October 5th at the high school at 7:00
