DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY / RESOURCES / LEARNING OUTCOME
Introduction and icebreaker
In this session, the young people will undertake the support that they have been planning – all their ideas and plans will come to life so try to create an exciting and positive atmosphere.
Before the community project
It is likely that the young people will be leaving their usual space to complete this project, so you may want to set some ground rules first. Use a piece of flipchart paper as your contract and ask the young people to write or contribute rules they think the group needs to follow to keep everyone safe and ensure that the project works properly. This is your group’s contract and if the young people are comfortable doing so, they can all sign it.
Review the Risk Assessment you created in the previous session. If you are going to a different venue, ask someone there if there is anything that needs to be added or changed. / Flipchart paper and pens
Risk assessment worksheet (optional)
Supporting Others
The young people should be ready to carry out the support they have planned. / Any materials needed (young people should have planned this already) / Support the individual/people
Reviewing the Project
After the project has completed, the young people must review how the project went, what they felt went well, what didn’t and what could have been improved or done differently. You could include a conversation about health and safety and how that went as well as how the project itself went.
Measuring Impact
How do you measure impact of a project? Have YP brainstorm how you can measure the success of a project using Key Performance Indicators. They can use computers to research this, and start getting ideas of how people measure success of projects by visiting websites like this.
Once they have 3-5 ideas of how to measure success of their or a project, they should create a mind map using Coggle, and present 3-5 different ways evaluation and impact measurement can take place to the group.
They can use the Supporting Others worksheet to do this. Make sure to gather photos, quotes and other evidence from the individual/group who have been supported to demonstrate the impact they made and the success of the project. / Supporting others worksheet
