XII ANDERS DANIELSSON (6196) was born about 1600, the son of a certain Daniel who lived in the 1500s. Nothing is known of his life or wife except that his name appears on a Gävle school roster in conjunction with his son Neils. Anders had the following known son:
XI NEILS (NILS) ANDERSSON (3098) was born about 1630, the son of ANDERS DANIELSSON (6196), his mother unknown. As a youth Neils (Nils) attended school in Gävle, and it is the school roster which gives to history the name of his father. Neils Andersson is mentioned several times in the town of Gävle, Gävleborg, Sweden in the latter half of the 1600s.
On 7 Feb. 1663 Neils Andersson is called a burgher and merchant in Gävle, and in 1681 he is listed among the town’s honored 24 Elders, an indicator that at one time he served in the Gävle town council. On 9 May 1685 Neils is named among those on the local Gävle court, a position he held until 1689.
In 1691 Neils Andersson, his son-in-law Peter Strömbäck I, Erik Hammar, and Johan Brunn took on a cargo of grain in Swedish-Held Narva on the southeast Baltic coast. The ship became frozen in the ice near Öregrund and had to stay the winter, losing part of its cargo. Partner Erik Hammar would later became the father-in-law of Neils’ grandson Peter Strömbeck II, via his wife Margareta Hammar. But by then Neils would be dead.
On one occasion in 1695 Neils Andersson failed to attend the obligatory Easter evening church service. But when son-on-law Peter Strömbäck I certified the reason for his absence the required fine was dismissed.
Neils Andersson died 15 April 1698. He was buried with his wife in the high choir of Gävle’s Heliga Trefaldighet Church in grave #10 on the south side, with a large tombstone placed over them in the church floor. An 1830 church inventory shows that their grave was yet in the church, but by 1936 the church floor had sunk, destroying the floor. No longer is the grave to be found, presumably it now lies below the existing floor.
NEILS ANDERSSON (3098) was married to MARGARETA LARSDOTTER (3099), who was born about 1630, by her patronymic the daughter of a certain Lars. On 1 Jan 1684 Margareta Larsdotter and her husband donated a large 16-armed metal chandelier to Gävle’s Heliga Trefaldighet Church, which was hung next to the high choir. Margareta died on 8 May 1713 and was buried with her husband.
NEILS ANDERSSON (3098) and MARGARETA LARSDOTTER (3099) had the following known children , who seem to have taken the surnames Holmberg and Holmström:
1) CATHARINA HOLMBERG (1549), who was born in Gävle, Gävleborg, Sweden in 1660 and died there on 4 April 1744. She was married to Gävle merchant, Riksdagsman, shipowner, and foundry proprietor PETER STRÖMBÄCK I (1548) who was born 8 Mar. 1664 and died in Gävle 3 July 1720, the son of Gävle merchant fisherman PETER ERIKSSON SNIFS(3906) and beheaded witch ANNA ISRAELSDOTTER BURE (3097).
2) Anna Nilsdotter Holmberg and/or Holmström, who died in Gävle 7 July 1746, and in 1690 married Gävle länräntmästare (interest master) Peter Depken. Peter Depken was born in 1667 and died in 1713, the son of Falun, Stora Kopparberg, Sweden merchant and bookkeeper Christopher Depken and Christina Trotzig.
3) ? Holmberg, who lived yet in 1712 when he was part owner of the ship Förgylda Cronan (Golden Crown), then owned with his brother-in-law Peter Strömbäck I and others.
4) Margareta Nilsdotter Holmberg, who was born about 1670 and married in Gävle on 10 Oct. 1695 to the judge of East Dalarna, Sweden, Fredrik Hansson Brander. He was born in Falun, Stora Kopparberg, Sweden in 1666 and died in 1712, the son of Falun merchant and town councilman Hans Hansson Brander and Margareta Fredriksdotter Swab. The son of Margareta Holmberg and Frederik Hansson Brander, Fredrik Brander (1705-1779), was a well-known Swedish portrait painter of the 18th Century. He painted an oil painting of his cousin Peter Strömbeck II (1688-1750), which today belongs to the Gävle Museum.
5) Anders Nilsson Holmberg, who was born in 1686. He was a Gävle burgher and merchant in 1710 and a Gävle councilman when he died on 5 Dec. 1766 at age 80. He was married to Brita Jernberg, who died in 1784, the daughter of the priest in Ovansjö Parish, Gävleborg, Hans Jernberg (1664-1740), and Catharina Schilling.
