Dear Parent/Guardian

Year 13 A Level and BTEC – Pre-public examsand Public Examinations 2016

This correspondence sets out details of the forthcoming Year 13pre-publicand examination period covering:

1.A2Level pre-public examinations (PPE)

2.A2Level public examinations

4.Arrangements concerning BTEC completion

4.A2Level and BTEC results arrangements

1.A2Level Pre-Public Examination Period–22nd February to 26th February 2016

All students are expected to take part in pre-public examinations for their A2 Levels as part of their preparation for successful outcomes in the summer public examinations. These will take place from 22ndFebruary to 26th February 2016. Students will not be required to register with their form tutor during this period. They are expected, however, to be in the Academy fifteen minutes before the start of any PPE and must sign in and out of the Academy using the academy inventory system to register their presence for health andsafety purposes.

A2 lessons will not take place during this period unless arranged on an individual or group basis by the subject teacher direct with the learners. BTEC lessons remain unaffected by this process unless students have to miss lessons for an examination.

2.A2 Level Public Examinations – 16thMay2016Onwards

Year 13A Level students will be having the majority of their exams from the week beginning 6th June 2016. Copies of the provisional exam timetable are available on the Academy website.

Students should continue to attend all lessons until the exam in that subject has been completed, they are then allowed to revise either at home or at school but must attend registration if they are on site and sign in and out of school if they arrive or leave outside of the registration periods. While private study time can be in school or at home, students must attend specific teacher led sessions when requested to do so.

During the revision period all students should be revising for approximately six to eight hours per day; this is equivalent to a full school day plus three hours of homework every day including weekends. Long working hours in paid employment during the revision period will adversely affect results.

Students will be required to complete a Leaver’s Form on completion of their examsto indicate their destination and to provide very useful feedback on their experience at the Academy.

Students must also return all books as soon as their exams finish. If they do not they will be charged which will ultimately result in their exam certificates being withheld from them.

3.Arrangements Concerning BTEC Completion

All BTEC Units will be expected to be submitted and signed off by the subject teacher no later than Tuesday 7thJune 2016.

4. A Level and BTEC Results Arrangements

On Thursday 18thAugust 2016 A Level and BTEC results will be released to students at 8am in the Academy Foyer. A results and progression helpdesk will be available in the Academy Gym on 18thandin the sixth form hub on 19th August 2016and will be manned from 10am to 2pm on these days. Queries about access to university can be sought here.

Students need to phone and confirm the university place they intend to take up. If all does not go to plan it is wise to bring alternative university phone numbers and their UCAS number so they can contact universities while they have access to me to give a verbal reference if needed.

If students are unable to collect their results in person on results day a letter, signed by the student, must be given to the Exams Office outlining alternative arrangements. If the results are to be posted, an envelope with correct postage should be passed to the Exams Office with your letter.

The official Certificates will be provided by the Exam Boards during the Autumn Term and will be presented at the Sixth Form Awards Ceremony in December 2016(details to be confirmed).

Good luck to all students and let’s look forward to a cracking set of results!

Yours faithfully

Rebecca Mayles
