From 1 April 2015, the Education Authority (EA) will take over all functions of Belfast Education and Library Board.
All appointment processes that complete before 1 April 2015 will be unaffected by the transfer of functions to the EA.
After 1 April 2015, all ongoing appointment processes will be subject to the transitional recruitment and selection procedures for the EA, and all appointments will be effected by the EA as the employing authority.
Teaching posts will continue to be offered on the basis of current terms and conditions of employment for teachers, as advertised.
APPOINTMENT OF VICE - PRINCIPAL
Cavehill Primary School

Applications are invited for the post of Vice-Principal of Cavehill Primary School which has become vacant from 1 September 2014.
2 School Information
Cavehill Primary School, which was founded in 1844, is situated in a beautiful five acre setting on the lower slopes of the Cavehill. The new building includes 14 classrooms, spacious play areas, libraries, an assembly hall, a large sports field and adventure playground along with numerous environmentally friendly features such as: solar cells, a wind turbine and rain water harvesting. The school’s popular breakfast club operates each morning from 8am and provides a healthy and gentle start to the day.
We seek to provide a broad and balanced programme in line with the Northern Ireland Curriculum and expect high standards of behaviour and academic effort from our pupils. Children wear an agreed uniform and are encouraged to be courteous, obedient and well-mannered.
A caring ethos is projected and reinforced through constructive relationships with parents. Parent/teacher interviews/consultations, curriculum meetings and written reports on pupil progress all help to foster positive co-operation as does membership of an active and supportive parent teacher association.
Pupils are involved in a range of activities which are designed to develop their appreciation of an exciting and evolving world. Swimming, football, choir and instrumental tuition are among the opportunities regularly offered to our pupils and in turn form the foundation for league and cup competitions, music festivals and an outstanding annual school concert. After school activities also normally include cycling proficiency, soccer coaching, choral work, film club, cookery, modern languages and these clubs are reviewed on an annual basis.
Comprehensive programmes of educational visits include class outings of a local nature as well as a P7 residential trip. The school is proud to have gained the Green Flag status as an Eco School and has initiated Sustrans (cycle to school) scheme in recent years, gaining the first bronze award in 2013/14.
We currently have an enrolment of 410 pupils, with 18 teachers (including 4 who work on a job share basis) and Principal.
3 Duties
The person appointed to this post will be required to carry out the duties of a vice-principal as stipulated in the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987 Schedule 1, Regulation 4. (attached)
4 Experience and Qualifications
Applicants must at the closing date:
(i) be qualified teachers recognised by the Department of Education (NI);
(ii) have a minimum of 7 years teaching experience* in a primary school;
(iii) have a minimum of 2 years experience* as subject, area of learning or key stage co-ordinator in a primary school; and
(iv) hold or have held a minimum of one teaching allowance for a minimum of 2 years within the last 7 years.
Preference may be given to those applicants who at the closing date:
(i) have successfully completed a course of further professional studies (professional studies will be defined as a post graduate degree or a professional qualification such as PQH); and/or
(ii) hold a musical qualification minimum of grade 5 on piano or voice; and/or
(iii) have experience* of co-ordinating ICT; and/or
(iv) have experience* of co-ordinating or assisting with the whole school development of Art.
*Please note only post qualification teaching experience will be considered.
The panel reserves the right to enhance these criteria.
On taking up this post the successful applicant must be a registered teacher with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland.
Posts involving work in educational institutions are subject to the provisions of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007. The successful applicant will require an enhanced disclosure check which at present costs £33. Further details regarding the payment of this check will be issued with the contract of employment.
5 Person Specification
The person appointed should:
· be able to provide motivational leadership to meet future changes and staff development;
· have a sound knowledge and understanding of current educational developments and financial management;
· have a clear vision of how to move the school forward;
· be able to further develop existing home / school links;
· be able to actively develop and promote the school within the local and wider community;
· be able to work co-operatively with the Board of Governors, staff, parents and external agencies;
· have excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
6 Salary
Group 3, spinal point L9, £46,093 (ISR L9 – L13).
7 General Information
