Michael Gittelman, MD, FAAP, Injury Prevention Co-Medical Director
Mike Gittelman, M.D. is a pediatric emergency room physician at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, in Cincinnati, Ohio and he is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University Of Cincinnati School Of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate work at Swarthmore College and his medical school training at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA and a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. His area of expertise is within the field of injury control. Currently, he serves as the Co-Director of the Comprehensive Children’s Injury Center and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, he is the recent past Chairperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Injury and Poison Prevention and he serves as Treasurer for the Ohio Chapter of the AAP. He coordinates several QI programs for the OH Chapter and he has published extensively within the field of injury control.
Sarah Denny, MD, FAAP, Injury Prevention Co-Medical Director
Sarah A. Denny, MD, is an attending physician at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the Emergency Department and Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She completed her residency in general pediatrics at University of Washington, Seattle Children’s Hospital. She is on the Executive Committee of the Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention for the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Chapter of the AAP.Her interests include injury prevention, advocacy and patient education, specifically related to bicycle helmets, safe sleep and epipen use.
Jamie Macklin, MD, FAAP, EASE Principal Investigator
Jamie Macklin, MD is an adult medicine and pediatric hospitalist, currently practicing at the OSU Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She received her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, and completed an internal medicine/pediatrics residency at the OSU Medical Center/Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, OH. Her clinical interests currently include quality improvement regarding safe sleep and breastfeeding education, as well as physician communication. When not in the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Josh, and two young daughters, Lucy and Victoria.
Hayley Southworth, MS, Ohio AAP Project Manager
Hayley joined the Ohio AAP in the summer of 2012 and in 2013 transitioned to Development and Program Manager, where she focuses her efforts on supporting and expanding the programs of the Ohio AAP Foundation. These programs include the Put a Lid on It! Bike Helmet Safety Awareness campaign and all Ohio AAP Safe Sleep Initiatives. As part of her Master’s of Public Relations, completed in 2010, she extensively researched the use of relationship management in fundraising; she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rio Grande with a double major in public relations and mass communications in 2009. At home Hayley enjoys camping and traveling with her husband, 3year-old daughter, and Chihuahua.
