Key to Block Assignments 2017-2018
(For 4th Year Students)
I (The Children’s Dental Center of Greater Los Angeles in Inglewood) - If you did not complete your Inglewood Block rotation during the third year, you will be scheduled for one rotation during the summer, fall, or winter quarter of fourth year. Because the summer quarter is shorter than the fall quarter, summer rotations will continue into the first week of the fall quarter. Fall rotations will begin the second week of the quarter. The block is one full day per week for an entire quarter (7:50am – 5:00pm). See course chair and Gryphon for block rotation syllabus and schedule (Dr. Clarice Law, ). Your assigned day will appear on the schedule as follows:
It – Tuesday Iw – Wednesday Ith – Thursday
V – Venice (T-W-Th)
If you were not scheduled for Venice block your 3rd year, you are scheduled for Venice block. The block is one full day per week for the entire quarter (8am-5pm). Your assigned day will appear on the schedule as follows:
Vt – Tuesday Vw- Wednesday Vth – Thursday
(Any absence to the Venice block schedule must follow the school’s protocol and be approved by Dr. L. Cheng, Venice Clinic Director)
SP – Special Patient Care
If you were not scheduled for Special Care in your 3rd year, you are scheduled in the summer 4th year. The block meets for 2 consecutive Wednesdays, in the Weintraub Center, Commons B3-068 as follows:
1st Wednesday from 8am-5pm 2nd Wednesday from 8am-9am
(Please note: There is no SP block scheduled during finals week or school breaks. If the second consecutive session falls during that period, the 2nd session will restart the first week of the next quarter.)
UC – Urgent Care
You are scheduled for a minimum of 1 - 3 days per quarter on the Urgent Care block. Your assigned days will appear on the schedule as follows:
ucm – Monday; 9am-5pm uct – Tuesday; 9am-5pm ucw – Wednesday; 9am-5pm
ucth – Thursday; 9am-5pm ucf – Friday; 9am-12pm
OFP – Orofacial Pain – (M, F)
You are scheduled for Orofacial pain block. Your assigned days will appear on the schedule as follows:
MA – Monday 9am-12pm – Attend the preceding 7:30am-9:00am rounds***
MP – Monday 2pm-5pm – Attend the preceding 7:30am-9:00am rounds***
FA – Friday 9am-12pm – Attend the preceding 7:00am-9:00am rounds***
FP – Friday 2pm-5pm – Attend the preceding 7:00am-9:00am rounds***
***When there is a conflict with an 8am didactic class the schedule for rounds is adjusted to 7am-8am.
OS- Oral surgery – 15-Day Rotation
You are scheduled for three weeks of Oral Surgery block. For all sites, King, UCLA-Harbor, VA Sepulveda, and WLA VA (West Los Angeles VA), rotations may not necessarily begin on Monday.* You will be notified of instructions and specialized forms to complete in advance of your rotation.
The location of your block is indicated at the end of the month according to the following code:
S – Sepulveda W – West LA H – UCLA/ harbor K - King

OD - Oral Diagnosis – You are scheduled for ½ day on OD block during the spring quarter. Your assigned days will appear as follows: Ma – Monday (9am-12pm) Mp – Monday (2pm-5pm)
***Where there is a conflict with Wednesday Inglewood or Wednesday Venice blocks, please make arrangements with those block chairs to make-up the session.
D- Denture block
You may be scheduled for a denture block rotation during the school year. The block meets ½ day per week (AM or PM) for an entire quarter. Your assigned day will appear on the schedule the week prior to each quarter, as follows:
Dt (denture Tuesday) Dw (denture Wednesday) Dth (denture Thursday)
You will be receiving a detailed schedule (time/location) via email from Section of Removable Prosthodontics.
VS – Venice Senior Enrichment Block
You are scheduled for Venice Select block rotation during summer and fall quarters. The block will meet from 8am to 10pm on Thursdays in the summer and fall quarters. Your assigned day will appear on the schedule two weeks prior to each quarter, highlighted in yellow:
