Music Parents Support Group – Meeting February 2, 2017

1.Minutes were approved as corrected, moved by Clare, seconded by Linda. Carried.
2.Student Update:(Jason on behalf of Sara and Janet)
- The Gingerbread Social earned $242.00 (actual 182.00, as corrected at March meeting)
- Week of Valentine’s Day there will be 2 activities leading up to a social on February 16
- “cupid-hunting”
- candy count jars
3.School update: (Jason)
- Purchases:2 cellos purchased
Rehairing and replacement of bows in progress.
- Cadenza and Grade 11recitalheadshots mostly completed. Invitations will be sent to parents with information.
- Grade 12 Toronto trip itinerary and forms are ready – May 17-19.
- Auditions – Letters of acceptance usually includesMPSG letter, which needs updating.
- Italy Itinerary – Jason will soon start presenting to Grade 10 and grade 11’s, approximately cost $4500., for 10 days.
4.Berry Fundraiser: (Natalie)
- Forms are out, and Reminds have been sent by Jason, also email by MC.
- Deadlines: original note said Tuesday (Feb 7) but supplier’s deadline is Friday, so Natalie will send an extended deadline notice on Monday.
- Cheque for supplier by Feb 13 with final amounts
- Saturday February 25, berries are to be picked up at the staff parking lot, between 11:00-12:30
5.Treasurer’s Report (Menaka)
- Cara has taken over bank deposits, etc as part of transition to being Treasurer
- Full report and bank statement will be emailed
6.DVDs:(Carolyn via email)
- Estimated date of delivery mid/late February
7.MPSG Fundraising:
a)Fundscrip – (Linda)
half way through the year (10 of 20 orders) we are already at 62% of goal ($3000 of $5000.)
b)Silent Auction – (Gord)
- 31 emails out to past donors
- E-communication or Reminds to go out soliciting donations Feb 21st, March 1st and March 20th
- MPSG will receive template of letters for approaching potential donors, but check with Gord to avoid duplication
8.Cadenza fundraising (Clare)
- Bottle Drive – received $394.00 since last meeting for total $793.00 and may still receive more (double last year’s amount).
- Proposed music clothing for spring
- Memory Book –
Music council will use some time at their Monday meetings to organize material
Template ready and will make it possible for online editing
Clare suggested the coordinators be in touch with OCDSB printers to confirm timeline.
9.Upcoming events (and volunteers needed):
- February 16 student social (no volunteers)
- February 22-23 Musicfest (no volunteers) at Hillcrest High School
Concert band February 22 at 1:30 pm
Orchestra February 22 at 4:00 pm
Intermediate band February 23 at 8:00 pm
- March 3 Jazzfest – 4:00 pm senior jazz
- March 4 Jazzfest – TBD intermediate jazz
- March 4 After Hours (Vocal program)
Janet will email MC about volunteers needed (10?)
Information needed about space required.
- March 22 Jazz Café – need 2 parents to collect and count cash at door
- March 29 Grade 11 Recital – First Baptist Church, Laurier and Elgin
(Craig) Yapsody for tickets
2 parent volunteers for ticket scanning and 1 for audio recording
Food (Gord) check space for drop-off, serving, eating
Need 2-3 students to help unload, etc.

February 15 marks the retirement of CHS office administrator Brenda, whose assistance has been invaluable. Linda will write a card on behalf of MPSG.
MOTION:Rosemary moved, seconded by Linda, that MPSG purchase a $50.00 restaurant gift card for Brenda to thank her for her assistance. Carried.
We took a moment of silence to remember those who were lost and those who lost loved ones in the events at Ste. Foy on January 29, and to reflect on its impact of the young people we support.
