COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to: demonstrate the correct technique for performing adult, child and infant CPR, Obstructed Airway and Rescue Breathing in a simulated environment. In addition, students should be able to administer basic First Aid assistance for simulated emergencies.
TEACHING METHODS:
The method of instruction will be primarily lecture and class participation. Films, handouts, etc will supplement lectures.
EVALUATION TECHNIQUES:
A score of 80% is required on the exams in order to receive ARC cards. Students will earn their grade in this course by accumulating points from the following sources:

Adult/Child AED 30 points

Attendance: 50 points (approx 3 points per class period)

90 - 100% A
80 - 89% B
70 - 79% C
60 - 69% D

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
The likelihood of succeeding in this course without your attendance is minimal. Students will be allowed to miss “one” class before attendance points are subtracted from your accumulated score. Beyond that, two (2) points for every class missed will be subtracted from your total points accumulated. Material covered in class may or may not be present in the textbook. You will be responsible for both. Lectures, notes and information missed, should be obtained from fellow classmates if possible. Failure to follow TCC’s withdrawal polices, may result in a grade of “F” at the end of the semester.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS & MAKE-UP WORK:
Late assignments may/may not receive full credit. A missed quiz and/or exam “must” be taken during the next scheduled class. Final exams will not be made up.
COURSE WITHDRAWL: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of any class. Check the TCC Academic Calendar for the deadline that applies to the course(s). Begin the process with a discussion with the faculty member assigned to the course. Contact the Advisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course
('W' grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Withdrawal and/or change to an audit from a
course after the drop/add period can alter the financial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students may receive an outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation leaves a
balance due to TCC. Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of “F,” which may have financial aid consequences for the student.

COMMUNICATIONS:
Email: All TCC students receive a designated “MyTCC” email address (ex: ). All communications to you about TCC and course assignments will be sent to your MyTCC email address; and you must use MyTCC email to send email to, and receive email from, the instructor regarding this course.
Inclement weather: TCC rarely closes. If extreme weather conditions or emergency
situations arise, TCC always gives cancellation notices to radio and television stations. This information is also posted on the TCC website (www.tulsacc.edu).

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of others about one’s own work or about the work of another. Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned or tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa Community College system. Tulsa Community College adopts a policy delegating certain forms of authority for disciplinary action to the faculty. Such disciplinary actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the dismissal of disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic dishonesty a faculty member may:
§ Require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the student to complete a substitute assignment or test;
§ Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question;
§ Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or administratively withdraw the student from the class;
§ Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester. Faculty may request that disciplinary action be taken against a student at the administrative level by submitting such a request to the Dean of Student Services.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS:
Every effort will be made to avoid the transmission of disease and the spreading of germs. Students will be required to wash their hands with soap before practicing skills. Gum will not be permitted during practice on the CPR equipment. Students wearing lipstick will be asked to remove it. If you have an illness such as a cold, upper respiratory infection, or cold sore on your mouth, please inform me privately so that special precautions can be taken.
PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS:
Students are required to bend, squat, stoop and lift. Please advise me if you feel you have limitations that require special consideration or that may prevent you from performing certain routines.
DRESSING ATTIRE:
Lose fitting and comfortable clothing should be worn. Pants, slacks, and/or sweats are best suited when practicing first aid skills. Performance skills are done on the floor.
CELL PHONES:
Cell phones and pagers are not allowed in class. Please tell family members, etc…. to contact the Campus Police if they need to get in touch with you. If you have an emergent situation that requires you to keep your phone turned on, please advise me prior to class.
CERTIFICATION:
CPR Certification cards will be mailed to the Student within 2 weeks of class completion. You are asked to bring a self addressed envelope to class sometime before the end of the semester. When you receive your card(s), please sign the back of the cards and carry them on your person at all times.
