TESCO ROMP TO FRESH FIVES VICTORY
The inaugural Fresh Fives Cup took place yesterday evening (26th October 2007). The pilot event, organised by Gomez, was held at a five a side facility in Dagenham and involved Teams representing Tesco Stone Fruit Suppliers, plus a team from Tesco.
The 5 teams involved in the competition were Tesco, Gomez, Prima Fruit, DPS and Richard Hochfield.
15 minute games, with no half time where played by all teams, with the top two going through to a final.
Gomez placed first in the qualifiers and were joined by Tesco who beat Prima Fruit and Hochfield to the final on goal difference. Tesco came out on top beating Gomez 3-2, with Stonefruit buyer Kevin Patel scoring the winning goal in the last minute.
The event was followed by an award ceremony and hospitality. The award for player of the tournament went to Gomez Packhouse Team Leader, Shpend Vranoci, who was awarded for his amazing contribution to all of Gomez’s games and special mention went to Damien ‘The Cat’ Sutherland, who was outstanding in the Tesco goal.
Event Manager, Richard Fell said “The night was a great success, everyone enjoyed themselves and as a pilot for a much bigger event, as organisers, Gomez where very happy. The event paves the way for a much bigger event, which will be happening in the first half of next year, details of which will be available soon.”

The Fresh Fives Cup, is devised and managed by Gomez for Tesco and is an annual Five a side football competition for the Fresh Produce industry.
