About the columns :
The Pinkas may be referred in several numbering methods as will be explained later.In the index list I will note the following info :
- Page ( Pg) to note the page number as a Hebrew reader follows from right to left. For my convenience and to be consistent with the microfilms that I have I included the microfilm header and the cover as well.
- AN ( Archive Number) pages of the pinkas are numbered from left to right
almost all the written ones, except for the first two. Blank pages are not counted and not appear in the microfilm. AN is the name I chose for that method assuming it was done when making the microfilm. - HL (Hebrew letter) is on every other page. There are gaps in this numbering system – either because there are missing pages or because the HN was done in the opening of the Pinkas and since blank pages weren’t copied to the microfilm – they may be not copied.
- Rec – the record number, as I divided them as far as I understand. Records longer then one page were divided , for convenience yet noted that they are part of the same original record.
- Content – the content of the record. Headers were written by me according to my understanding of the content.
- Year – the year of the record. In case of a copy of an old record – I t would appear in the record itself. In cases of assumed year for a record I will add the mark ~ (about) or ? for assumption.

[1] Kahal which is in modern Hebrew a crowd or audience served in the past as a name to the general Jewish community in a town or as the leades of it. Pinkas means notebook . While there were different books in the community : verdicts book, bookkeeeping books charity books etc, The book of the leaders contained the important information that they wanted to keep .
[2] The archives list claim that the Pinkas covers the years 1720-1816 yet I found records covering the years 1714 – 1817. The first dared record is in page 3 dated to 1723 and continues from there. Older records are in later pages and stated to be copied from older one. I assume the Pinkas was in use since 1723 but covers as explained older records.
[3] This page contains the oldest records in the Pinkas. They were coppied into it from older notebooks.
[4] Krupki was a tax on sales, consumption and negotiation – kind of “old V.A.T”
[5] This record was probably mistakenly misplaced, as the writed used a blank page that wasn between 2 used pages. Finding that out he stopped after several lines and this time wrote it all as record 90 3 pages later.
