Attendance Policy
You are responsible for attending class regularly and for keeping up with your assignments. Punctuality is a very important quality. It is also important to sign in for each class that you attend with your own signature. Because passing the exit exam is required for passing this course, please make sure that you attend class regularly so that you will have as much preparation as possible for the exam. If you discover that you need to withdraw from the class, you are able to go online to complete the withdrawal with a W through October 27, 2011. Immediately following, the 60% point of the term (10/27/11) , each instructor will verify which students are actively participating in class as defined in the course syllabus. (Based on this syllabus, a student is not actively participating if the student: 1) has been absent more than six times without emailing the instructor at , 2) has been absent from class more than eight times, and 3) has been absent from class four consecutive times immediately before the October 27thdeadline withdrawal date. If a student is classified as not meeting the criteria for active class participation, the student is administratively withdrawn by SPC with a “WF.” You will be able to withdraw yourself at any time during the term before October 27th. Withdrawal requests submitted after the 60% deadline will result in a “WF.”The student and the instructor will automatically receive notification through SPC e-mail whenever a withdrawal occurs. Your time is very valuable, and you do not want to have to take the same course for an additional session unless you experience an unexpected emergency.
Grading Policy: Class average = 70% of total course grade ( tests, quizzes, in-class textbook grades, TP online work)
(Class average is based on best 20 grades according to the course portfolio format)
Lab average = 30 % of total course grade (vocabulary tests & TP online work)
Quizzes, Tests, Textbook Assignments, Townsend Press ,Make-up/Replacement Grades: If a student has to be absent from a class, the student will be able to complete a replacement assignment for a missing grade. One replacement grade will be needed to fill a blank grade for an in-class book assignment or TP Online assignment, and two replacement grades will be needed to fill in two blank grades for a quiz or test. Students will need to score 70% or higher on the chapter tests for the lecture and lab texts. If a score is below 70%, the student will need to take a retest. The lab grade is also very important and is averaged with the class grade to determine the total course grade. The lab grade is a combination of TP Online vocabulary assignments and the vocabulary unit contextual analysis tests.
Final Reading Exit Exam Policy and Course Grade: Students must pass the exit test with a score of 25 out of 36or must retake the course at a future time. Grading scalefor the course average:A = 90 – 100, B = 80 – 89, C = 70 – 79,
F = below 70,N=below of 25 out of 36 on the state exit test with an average of 70 or higher in the course.
