May I offer congratulations, on behalf of the organising committee, to the successful competitors who have qualified for the Championships from yourRegion.

Cumbria Constabulary has the pleasure of hosting this event and looks forward to welcoming you and your colleagues to Carlisle on Friday 27thApril.

Please find enclosed details of the Championships itinerary, entry and accommodation form. I ask that you forward them expeditiously to the qualifiers from your Region and make every attempt to engage with as many potential participants as possible.

The preferred payment method is by BACS transfer to Lancashire Constabulary Sports & Social Club (may be abbreviated to LCSSC). The transfer must contain ‘Squash’ then your Force name’: BACS transfer –LCSSC,Sort Code 01-67-14, A/C No. 08638284, Nat West Bank.

If entrants cannot pay by BACS transfer, then please advise them to make cheques payable to Lancashire Constabulary Sports & Social Club and ensure that they include their name and Force on the back of the cheque.

Finally, if you have a 2017 winner in your Region, would you please remind them to bring the trophy with them, suitably engraved and cleaned| If, for whatever reason, they are unable to attend please ensure that appropriate arrangements are made for the trophy to be delivered in time for the event.

INFORMATION SHEET

VENUE

The venue for the 2018 PSUK National Squash Championships is Carlisle Squash Rackets Club, Warwick Road, Carlisle, Cumbria (telephone 01228 539689). The club is about a quarter of a mile from the city centre in Carlisle. There is limited parking at the squash club. The easiest route is via junction 43 on the M6 then into Carlisle city centre A69 and the squash club is on the right, a short distance after Carlisle Football Club.

Carlisle Squash Club is managed by Ron Bell. There are 6 courts, a fitness gym and steam rooms. Ron has offered us use of all the facilities for the weekend. There is also a well-stocked shop on site and Ron has kindly offered to do any restringing if required. Adjacent to the club is Carlisle Rugby Club and we will be using their facilities throughout the weekend.

ACCOMMODATION

The accommodation for the Championships is on a B&B basis and is at the Crown & Mitre Hotel, English Street, Carlisle, Cumbria CA3 8HZ (telephone 01228 525491 or Fax 01228 514553). The hotel does have limited parking situated at the rear. Additional parking is at a local authority car park situated at WEST WALLS, which is approximately 200 yards from the hotel. The hotel is also only a short walk from Carlisle’s main line train station.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of Carlisle Squash Club, approximately 8 – 10 minutes.

ARRIVAL AND REGISTRATION

Competitors and guests should arrive at the hotel between 1200hrs - 1500 hrs on Friday 27thApril 2018,where members of the local organising committee will meet you in the foyer. Hotel rooms will be allocated from reception.

SQUASH 57 (formerly Racketball)

It should be noted that participants are entitled to enter one event only and, therefore, squash players are not permitted to take part in the Squash 57 event and vice versa.

COMPETITION DRAW/AGM

The competition draw, followed immediately by the AGM, will take place at 1600 hrs on Friday 27thAprilat the Carlisle Squash Club and first round games will commence at 1700 hrs prompt.

Losers of first round matches will be eligible for entry to the respective Plate Competitions.

Members of the PSUK National Squash Committee will be nominated to the roles of Tournament Referee, Match Organiser and Courts/Marker allocation. These committee members will be identified at the draw. Players will be asked to volunteer their services as markers during the tournament.

A meeting of the PSUK Squash Section Committee will be held at conclusion of the day’s matches on Saturday 28th April 2018. All players reaching the quarterfinal stages in the main events are requested to attend this meeting, which will include a discussion on the formation of the teams to represent the PSUK Squash Section in the forthcoming fixtures for 2018-19.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Correct and appropriate squash clothing/equipment must be worn and be free from defect. The wearing of protective eyewear, although not mandatory, is strongly recommended.

The Police Sport UK Squash Championships 2018 will be played under the rules of the WSF and other details will be announced at the briefing before the draw.

ENTERTAINMENT

A buffet meal will be provided at the Rugby Club (adjacent to the squash club) on Friday 27thApril 2018 at the conclusion of the matches.

There are no formal arrangements for Saturday evening, although a booking has been made for a group meal for the Saturday night at a nearby Italian Restaurant (Franco’s) for those who wish it. There is an excellent selection of bars and restaurants within Carlisle City Centre for those who wish to ‘do their own thing’.

The Presentation Dinner will be at Crown & Mitre Hotel on Sunday 29thApril 2018, with a 7pm for 7.30pm start. The Dinnerwill comprise a three course meal and will be followed by the presentation of awards and then the raffle draw. The proceeds from the raffle will be presented to Jigsaw Children’s Hospice, Carlisle.

Following the formalities, there will be a disco until 12 midnight.

All competitors, guests, and committee members are very welcome to bring prizes for the raffle, indeed it is encouraged! Any donations would be gratefully received.
