General Guidance for Completion of the Input Form

  • Not all projects and jurisdictions will require lateral bracing.
  • This report will provide specific bracing details for Enclose Frameless Glass or Trivati glazed walls, for use in regions and jurisdictions where lateral bracing is required.
  • Other products (Enclose, Trivati solid walls) requiring lateral bracing can be quoted based on the generic lateral bracing details.

Why are these reports required?

The reports are a guide for obtaining installation quotes for bid response, minimizing the requirement for having a third-party structural engineer develop or review the installation details until after award. They are formatted to provide specific recommendations for whichbracing details and anchors will be required to resist the design loads defined in the building codes. Once a project is awarded, the reports contain information to be reviewed and approved for construction by a structural engineer licensed in the jurisdiction.

Completing the Form

  • Complete all fields marked with an asterisk (*), and as much of the rest of the form as possible.
  • All of the mandatory information requested in the form will be project information already at hand, or available in the Construction Documents issued for quotation.
  • Seismic information not in the contract documents may be obtained by contacting the architect or their engineering consultant.

Section I –Identification

This information allows us to contact you if clarification is needed. This information willappear on the completed report.

Section II – Location Information

  • Project Name*: This should be the name or title you are using to distinguish from other projects, including other projects for the same client. We will file the request and report by this title.
  • Address fields *: This is to be the actual address of the construction site (ie: not the mailing, billing address, nor the delivery address of an off-site warehouse). This information is used to cross-reference the seismic information.
  • Jurisdiction: This is the city, county, or other jurisdiction which will is issuing the building permits for the site.
  • Code: This is the building code in use by the jurisdiction. Default is IBC 2015 (International Building Code, 2015 edition). (For projects with California site addresses, we will automatically run the calculations to the 2016 California Building Code.)
  • Seismic factors:
  • Site Class*: this is a factor describing the soil type. It will be available from the structural engineer. If not available, a default value “D” can be entered.
  • Risk Category*: For most office buildings or warehouses, this will be “III”. For hospitals, use IV, unless noted otherwise on the Construction Documents.
  • Importance Factor*: For hospitals and many emergency-services buildings, or for egress access, this will be “1.5”. For most other buildings or locations, this will be “1.0”.
  • Spectral Acceleration (SDS) *: This will be found in the construction documents for the site. (Note: this is NOT the same as SS, SD1 or S1.)
If in doubt, leave this blank and indicate in the notes that you are unable to obtain this value.
  • Height within Building*: The heightabove grade, in feet or stories, of the floor on which the walls are to be installed. For installations on multiple floors, list the individual floor numbers or the range of floors. For installations below grade, enter zero (0).
  • Height of Roof*: The height above grade of the roof of the building. If the Height within Building is entered in stories, enter the total number of stories in the building.
  • Height Units*: Indicate whether the two preceding Height fields are in Feet or Stories

Section III – Product Information

This section will tell us which product options you need us to review.

  • Wall System*: Reports can be created for Enclose Frameless Glass (1-channel or 2-channel) walls, or for Trivati glazed walls.
  • Glazing*: choose the glazing option to be evaluated.
If multiple glazing options are in consideration, select the thickest option desired and check the box for “Evaluate thinner glass if needed.” If needed, we will evaluate thinner glass options to obtain a more desireable result.
  • Ceiling Height*: the vertical distance from the finished floor to the finished ceiling, in inches.
  • Plenum Height*: The vertical distance from the underside of the finished ceiling, to the building structure above the ceiling. If this dimension varies, provide the largest dimension.

The following information is NOT mandatory. However, if the design is close to the limit for any details, knowing this information could help us optimize the solution for the specific conditions.

  • Bracing preference: If there is a local preference for one type of bracing (wire or stud), tell us here. If there is no preference, indicate “No Preference” or leave blank.
  • Deck type: If this is known, tell us. If not, leave this blank.
  • Floor type: If this is known, tell us. If not, leave this blank.

Submitting the completed form

When complete, send the form as an email attachment to . Multiple attachments can be sent in the same email. Best practice is to enter the Project Name in the Subject line of the email.

Report Use

There are two sections in each report. The first section will show the recommended details for the specified construction types, and can be provided to an installation contractor for preparation of the install quote.

The second section provides detailed engineering calculations which justify the recommendations in the first section. This section will not normallybe required until the project is awarded. On award, the report can be reviewed by an engineering firm for review and approval of the specific installation details. At their discretion, the engineer may choose to apply their seal to this report in the space provided, or they can use the report as guidance in conduction their own analysis.

Once approved and sealed, the report can be used in support of a permit application.

WARNING: Unless and until the report has been reviewed and approved by an engineering firm practicing in the jurisdiction, and bears their seal, it is not to be used for construction.

For products other than Enclose Frameless and Trivati glazed walls

For other wall products, pricing for lateral bracing details may follow the generic details published by Haworth. Project-specific details are recommended only for frameless glass products.

All Haworth wall products may require lateral bracing for installation in any jurisdiction, regardless of seismicity. The specific details required should be approved by an engineer practicing in the jurisdiction. If necessary, contractors or engineering firms in the region of interest may be suitable sources for determining common local practices for installation of moveable walls, and details which have been found to be acceptable.
