  6. PERSONS TO BE HEARD

a.  David Weaver – Director of University Housing, Dining, and Conference Services – Changes in catering program, only one of the areas he works with, but interfaces with the community a lot. Brought copies of a new menu “Shoestring Menu” lowest cost items you can get for Student Clubs. Program with catering that will sponsor 2 events per month Aug through May – can find form on Catering website students pick winners – winners get $500 of free catering from us. Can always contact him with questions or concerns.

b.  Jordan Pratt – Simple Truth – Treasurer, event coming up on Feb 11 the Brain Science of Attraction – speaker talking about sexual problems on a neurological level. Hosting it at the commons Room 107 Free for all open to the public free food at 6:00p.m. talk starts at 7:00p.m. Please invite everyone out, fliers are posted all around campus.

c.  Alumni Relations – Stacey Lucason – Introduced alumni chair for nine in the spine: Jason Smart. Feb 24 set up in mid afternoon event at 6pm. Jason: Alumni of UAA and has worked at UAA. 3rd year for nine in the spine golf event, goal is to have the opportunity to connect students with alumni in the community. Have alumni come back to campus, and have student orgs share info about the work that they do. Total of 18 put-put holes spread throughout campus from RH to Library. Total of 36 teams of 4 that would play with 2 students from clubs. Asking for clubs that are interested in participating – goal is to have 18 clubs. You would design and host the hole during the event. Each club will receive up to $125 for design materials. Several clubs have already signed up but we need more! Applications were sent out on the list serve. Also looking for volunteers – see Stacey in the back to sign up. Feb 12 would be the run through for teams and volunteers. Pizza party after for clubs that hosted. Please register by Feb 11.

d.  Jonathon Taylor – USUAA – President – Number of boards and tasks forces that need students appointed to them, if you are interested there is an application on our website that you can fill out and send to us. One forming right now is a student committee on faculty/class surveys. Couple of events on Feb 4: Little Black Dress doesn’t mean yes (2 events am and pm) purpose of event is to start dialogue about sexual violence and assault and having people know what to do as a bystander. Also Chat with the Chancellor at noon on Feb 4, ask questions about UAA, the budget, policies, etc. cabinet will also be present to answer questions in the Den. Uncertainty/Concerns regarding the budget and the impact on the University. There will be changes in the future with programs and schools, but these will take time. Over the next months please give us your feedback to help UAA deal with these budget cuts. If you have questions, talk to Johnnie or come up to the office upstairs in the SU.

e.  Special Projects/Green Fee Board – Garren – SPF is accepting grant applications for club event funding. GFB looking for more members! Check the website if you are interested or talk to Jonathon.

f.  Club announcements – Jenna – Econ – guest speaker Steve Calpert discussing oil prices and AK economy and budget issues RH 220 Wednesday Feb 3 at 5:30.

Geology – next Fri 10 -3 Earth Sciences Career Fair CPISB.

College Dems – 1st meeting Feb 24 7pm Lib 207b. Guest speaker Forrest Dunbar.

CWC – Open meeting Feb 3 7-9 in the den, art dept. will also be showcasing artwork.

Dental hygiene – looking for patients to come in Wed and Thurs, Cleanings and X-Rays. Can be found online.

  1. BUDGET REPORT
  2. $14,135.99 current budget. Still plenty of funding for events. Can ask for 50% or up to $1980.00
  3. USUAA Report – Johnnie – Universal clicker for classrooms will be discussed today; can come to meeting at 3pm today to voice your opinion on this resolution. If you have any other issues you feel you need to bring to USUAA’s attention, please come see us.
  4. LEADERSHIP COORDINATOR – WinterFest – Wed Feb 24 – Sat March 5. Kick off with Nine in the Spine. Broomball tournament, BANFF, Demitri Martin. Student Involvement Fair, Feb 3 11:30 to 1:30 here in the SU, you can still sign up on our website uaa.alaska.edu/clubs. Next week Friday is preview day, high school students will be coming.
  5. COMMITTEE REPORTS
  6. Campus Programming Board - Joy Wannamaker – WinterFest! If you have questions, please ask me.
  7. Student Union & Commuter Student Services Board – To be determined – still suspended, may restart around Spring break.
  8. Special Projects Fund – Jeanette Smart – Plenty of funding still available, please turn in applications
  9. Concert Board – Nicole Willson – Demitri Martin Show March 3 Wendy Williamson Auditorium 7:30p.m, tickets available online. Meetings are open every Friday at 2pm.
  10. Diversity Action Council – Sarah Holland – Budget for this year has been increase by about $10,000. For single events you can ask for up to $500, multi day events up to $1000.
  11. NEW BUSINESS
  12. Attendance Waivers
  13. Flight Crew – Officers and other members work and cannot attend meetings. Voting: 78 yes, 6 no, 16 abstain. Attendance waiver approved.
  14. MBASA – members work full time jobs, cannot make CC meetings. Voting: 80 yes, 10 no, 10 abstain. Attendance waiver approved.
  15. NAMEC – all members have required course from 1-2pm on Fridays for all music majors. No members can attend. Voting: 92% yes, 2% no, 6% abstain. Attendance wavier approved.
  16. Funding Requests
  17. Arigaa – Forum in February. Veritas Forum, 3rd year UAA is hosting event. Have 2 world views come together to discuss a topic. Discussing “Why am I Here?” as topic. Free for all to attend. Feb 25 7pm in the Lucy Cuddy Hall. What are the funds going to be used for? Renting the Cuddy, Food to follow event and flying in the speaker Ruth. Were any of the professors from UAA Sociology considered? Did you look at other options, instead of flying in someone? We have always flown in one of our speakers. $1000 in gifts to speakers in your budget? More like a speaker fee. Motion to vote. Seconded. No objections. Voting: Funding approved. GET NUMBERS FROM JOHNNIE.
  18. Final Expense Reports

i.  SVUAA – Sent Brendon to Leadership Conference for Veterans in FL. Used 1075.50 for airfare 75 on registration and 919.01 on hotel. 900 provided by CC, so thank you all for approving the funding. Brendon: Over 1100 student vets and 600 admins that attended. Met with national leadership for student vets of America.

  1. New Clubs

i.  Alaskeros Kasamahan – Filipinos in AK group. History and culture education. For the semester: meetings – teach history and culture. Dine-in events at local restaurants. Planning Fiesta at the end of semester with guest speaker and dancers and food. First meeting Feb 4 at 6:30 RH 220. Requesting seed money.

  1. Club Suspension Appeals
  2. Young Life – Student rep that was coming to CC meetings wasn’t coming to club meetings. To prevent this, I (club president) will be coming to CC meetings. We’ve had growth with members; we meet every week, being suspended would be a hiccup for us. Voting: 83 yes 6 no 11 abstain. Appeal approved.
  3. LDS SA – Change of leadership last semester, and new president wasn’t aware that rep was needed at meetings. Now that I am president again, I am available to come to CC meetings. Voting: 72 yes, 8 no, 20 abstain. Appeal approved.

  5. Registration Questions/Concerns – Accounting Club – Will – United Way 5k walk/run. Feb 20th flyers will be left in the back. Need volunteers for day of too.
