Speech #2 Self-Evaluation Questions and Learning Log

Your Name:

1. Describe your process for preparing for your speech:
what did you do, how many times did you practice? Did you feel fully prepared?

2. Overall Feedback
After your speech, review the feedback from your peers and the feedback from your instructors. What were their main points (positive and instructive)? How do you think you did overall?
3. Reflecting on Your Learning
To complete this section, you will need to watch both your final video (in VHS format) and your practice video in the library. Respond to the questions below by comparing your practice session of your speech with the videotape of your final presentation of speech #2:

a.Evaluate the success of your introduction. Did you capture your audience’s attention?
If you think you could do better next time, what would you do differently?
b.List your three main points. Do you see evidence in your speech that they were clearly presented and supported? How did you improve this part of your speech from your practice video? What will you do differently next time?

c.How successful was your conclusion in “wrapping up” your presentation for your audience? What changes did you make as you practiced that made your conclusion more effective?
If you were going to do something different with your conclusion in your next speech, what would you do?
d. How successfully did you engage or hold your audience? Write about your speech delivery (posture), your eye contact, use of nonverbal cues (gestures, use of hands, facial expressions), and audience engagement. What differences do you see in your final video that improved your speech? What will you do differently next time with any of these important aspects of a good speech?

e. Lastly, using the assessment tool, please score your own speech (150 points maximum). Write about what you learned from this second speech that you will incorporate into your next speech (and will ensure you a higher grade).
