“Women and the Word: Gender and Literacy in Medieval and Renaissance Europe”—An exhibit that explores medieval women’s relation to the written word—as authors, readers, laywomen and members of religious orders—at a time when its role in their lives was conflicted with political turbulence and social change. “Human Bodies in the Spirit World”—A display of African sculpture from the May Weber collection that explores traditional potters’ incorporation of human anatomy in shaping and decorating their works. Through June 15, DePaulArt Museum, North Gallery, 2350 N. Kenmore Ave.

“Marks of Respect: Labor and Social Justice in Depression Era Prints”—Like Americans during the Great Depression, printmakers grappled with economic hardship; these prints reveal their complex experience and aspirations for change. “Ancient Mexican Codices and Their Legacy”—An exhibit of codices, or hand-painted books, that convey a rich variety of history, tax records and family genealogies of Aztecs and other indigenous Mexicans. “Women Writers in DePaul’s Special Collections”—An exhibit of images from DePaul’s Special Collection spans books from three centuries that include works by relatively unknown women, as well as those with great literary repute. “Our Culture is Our Resistance”—A traveling exhibition of images by Johnathan Moller sheds light on the struggle of the Mayan indigenous people who were uprooted during Guatemala’s protracted civil war. .
