AFSCME Local 2019 Contract Negotiation Team Candidate Statements
AFSCME Local 2019 Contract Negotiation Team Candidate Statements:
David JohnsonRanger/Naturalist II
Thank you for nominating me for the 2017 contract negotiating team.
I have worked Upcountry for over a decade and would like the opportunity to engage Management with our member’s proposals. I look forward to working with Mark, Jamie and Jae to negotiate a fair and equitable contract with management. I believe that my demeanor and ability to communicate in very tough situations will be beneficial to the team. Again, this is a great opportunity for me to represent membership at the negotiating table.
I would be honored to have your vote and represent Local 2019.
Thank you.

With almost 20 years of Local 2019 Union activism as steward, executive board member, Chief Steward, and member of the 2003 and 2011 Contract Negotiation teams, I will bring an experienced voice to the 2017 contract talks. I believe this experience is vital. The upcoming negotiation will be extremely challenging as management will try hard to negatively impact our wages and benefits. I want to ensure that this doesn’t happen. Please vote for me and I will be your advocate at the negotiating table. Thank you.
In solidarity,
George Cleveland

I would be grateful to have your vote and represent Local 2019 for the 2017 negotiations. The District continues to battle employees with wages, benefits and retirement matters, and I welcome the opportunity to fight for your rights and share your voice of concern. My current position at the District allows me to work with various levels of management and this will give me the ability to present negotiations in an actual manner, show true Value of District employees, and push for the highest results that members deserve.
Thank you.

Water System Inspector II
I joined the System Water Quality team in 2013 following fourteen years at the East Bay Regional Park District as a ranger and water quality technician. I began my career in labor activism as a shop steward in 2003 for Local 2428. I went on to serve as executive board member, vice president, chief steward and negotiator of the most recent contract. I strongly believe in each of us stepping up at crucial moments to safeguard the rights and interests of all union members. I would be honored to do my part for Local 2019.

Senior Systems Programmer
- I bring experience in negotiating pre-sales contracts, analyzing subcontractor costs and running comparative studies.
- Consulting across various sectors, I witnessed a spectrum of compensation beyond small salary increases.
- As we see continued retirements, a stronger local economy, nepotism, PEPRA and other concerns reduce the attractiveness of the District to the strongest candidates.
- External resources available to me include HR representatives, Payroll administrators and labor law attorneys.
- Having had the pleasure to work with hundreds of District employees, I value individual and collective contributions.

Survey Technician II
I have been on three previous negotiations’ teams and am a past president of Local 2019.
During the 2013 contract talks, I was the primary recorder of bargaining session minutes and I coordinated the equity adjustment presentations and professional licensing proposals. I am on good terms with the leadership of Locals 444, 21 and 39 and have had numerous interactions with the District’s chief negotiator since 2000.
Maintaining the free Kaiser health option, continuing to link the annual pay raise to CPI+ and addressing the exodus of ISD and Engineering professionals are high priorities.

I am a proud employee of EBMUD and a proud member of Local 2019. I’m grateful for my job and I recognize the work that we, as a union, do to maintain and improve it. I have a positive outlook toward work; I don’t look for problems, but am strong, vocal, and reasonable in my efforts to work through the ones that come. I have never been a member of the negotiations team, but if you think that I can represent you and your coworkers well during negotiations, I’m honored and will do my best.
