PART - A : PLAN AND OUTCOME
The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards
quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year.

Plan of Action: The Plan of action aims to attain the goal of the university as enunciated in its motto. “Excellence in Action”. The IQAC reiterates that the University keeps before it the vision of excellence in all spheres of education.

The University is committed to provide a High Quality Higher Education to the people of this region so that the human resources are put to best use in uplift of the nation to Educational, Social, Technological, Environmental and Economic Magnificence (ESTEEM).

The IQAC worked out plans for the University, as follows, for 2006-07.

9 / To align effectively with the internal and external stake-holders so that appropriate bonding for development is enabled and activated
10 / To ensure that the Stamp of Quality- Fineness, Attentiveness, Suppleness and Thoroughness(FAST), is made default in every sphere of activity.
Outcome of Actions: The outcome depicts the achievements of the University in tandem with the plan of Action and influences the future of the University. The University is made Educationally, Socially, Technologically, Environmentally and Economically Magnificent (ESTEEM) institution.

4 / Programs offered by majority of the University Departments are thoroughly revamped and made CBCS. Remedial learning, TEPSE and HEPSN also got fabulous support
5 / Public-Private-Partnership routefor expanding the reach of the University throughout the length and breadth of the nation and abroad by introducing more number of Non-conventional Programs of learning through the Directorate of Collaborative Programs is pursued ably
6 / Faculty members have established more global/national linkages for sourcing collaborative opportunities for joint research, Post-doctoral fellowships and overseas placements for students/scholars and so on.
7 / A modern auditorium with multiple utility space-lets, with overall capacity of 1400 is just added. The University gained visibility. Besides many buildings were given face lifts. The Alagappa University Arch spanning over 100 feet in length got constructed.
8 / Funded Research activitiesin the Departments of Bio-Tech, Oceanography & Coastal Area Studies, Industrial Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Physical Education, Education, Centre for Women’s Studies and faculty of Management got a robust growth.
9 / Many out-reach activities and Co-curricular programs like eminars, Symposia, Meet the Managers, Student Meets, Alumni Meets, Celebrations, Cultural Fete, Self Help Group activities, NSS, Red-ribbon club and other activities were taken out.
10 / Attitude, Behaviour, Capacity and Dedication (ABCD) are perhaps the tools to ensure that the Stamp of Quality- Fineness, Attentiveness, Suppleness and Thoroughness(FAST) is achieved. This ‘ABCD’ is made default in every sphere of activity so that the quality ‘FAST’ flowed naturally leading to the realization of super-ordinate goal, ‘ESTEEM’...

The AlagappaUniversity has identified internalization of higher education as one of its missions. The A grade Quality education received by this University from the NAAC has provided a platform for globalizing the Indian Higher Education.

Innovations in Curricular Design and Transaction

All the innovative methods such as experiential learning, brain storming, team-teaching, simulation modeling, sensitivity training, co-operativelearning approaches and other student centered approaches are widely employed by the faculty members. Seminars, Power point Presentation, Case discussionand Internet-based learning methodsare employed to supplement class room discussion/lectures.

There is a growing need for Programs in English for students from Republic of China. Hence programs in BA ( 1 year program for those with 3 year Diploma) , MA, M.Phil and Ph.D in English are launched.

Bridge courses are provided to familiarize the students who take programs that are quite different from their qualifying degrees, especially in MBA and MCA programs.

Modular approach in the form of unitization of syllabus of each course of all programs is followed in structuring the courses. This enables micro level academic planning possible, makes the students and the faculty to concentrate on all the modules or units.

Courses in Communication and Life skills are given to the students who are mostly vernacular-cult. Without this, the needy students never can enjoy the joy of learning.

Intensive Coverage of Syllabi, Practical Knowledge Impartation, Interactive Process in Learning (Student-Teacher and Student–Student Interactions), Power Point Presentation, Student Assignments, Remedial Learning for Infirm Students, etc are followed.

Village Placement Program is yet another innovation in the Curricula which exposes the students to the ground realities of rural India and develops the students into balanced citizens, when they complete the course at AlagappaUniversity.

Inter-disciplinary Programs Started

B.Com (Computer Applications), MA Communicative English and MSc (Maths with Computer Applications) are some programs with inter-disciplinary approach.

Besides, the University adopts inter-disciplinary approach. in the design of most programs at post graduate and research levels as well. All Non-computer Programs of study are having computer courses for 6 to 8credit hours. The ‘International Business &E-Commerce’ has 12 credit hours of computer curriculum. The Industrial Chemistry program has course in General Management.In research too, inter-disciplinary approach is followed in Science and Education faculties.

Examination Reforms Implemented

There is a great degree of computerization. Examination Schedule is published on the Website. The Examination section maintains a Data Bank on the subject experts. Scrutiny of Question Papers is done in most cases.

The conduct of University Examinations is streamlined such that all examinations of the Odd semester are over by middle of December and of the Even semester are over by middle of April.

The publication of results of all Regular / Collaborative Program / Distance Education arequickened. Within a month’s after examinations, results are released through University Website.

Initiatives towards Faculty Development Program

Faculty Development Programs cover:

i. All eligible faculty members are sent for UGC Refresher and Orientation programs with ASC of the UGC functioning in different Universities. 14 Faculty members have taken UGC Refresher / Orientation programs in the year 2006-07.

ii. All the Departments of the University are involved in research.The research culture percolates down to all individuals including the new recruits.

iii.Organization, participation and presentation of papers in conferences/seminars are given top priority so that faculty get exposures and can enhance their bench marks. The Faculty Members attended 185 Seminars, 70 Conferences and 17 Workshops during the year

iv. Faculty members are encouraged to do project funded by the UGC/ NABARD/DST/DBT/DRDO and the like. 57 Projects with a funding of Rs. 714 Lakhs are undertaken.
