Learning with Fun for Children with Special Needs

If we are measuring success by the smiles on the children’s faces, than our pilot programs were a hit! Therefore, Montgomery Township Recreation is onto our curtain call with the next session. Spring into Fun and Games as the children will have the opportunity to join a class focused on strengthening team-building and gross motor skills, while improving cardiovascular endurance. Skills such as balance, agility, speed, flexibility and coordination will be emphasized throughout various games. Activities will include performing locomotor skills such as hopping, skipping, jumping and galloping. In addition, we will include the basics of throwing, catching, kicking and running as well. Popular games your child may play include Hot Potato, Duck, Duck, Goose, Crab Soccer, various relay races, tag games, Musical Hoops, Charades, Cat and Mouse, Simon Says and many others. Parents, please make sure your child(ren) come dressed comfortably wearing sneakers.

Next we are offering to send the kids to Candy Land and Beyond! They will have a blast playing age-appropriate, not so boring board games. There will be the all-time classics joined with what’s new; Bingo, Tic-Tac-Toe and Bean Bag Toss to name just a few. Children may also become actual game pieces as they play “big” games, using “big” dice, while they jump from space to space. They will learn traditional birthday party games, including Chicken Limbo, they will explore the adventures of a treasure hunt while playing Cranium Caraboo, there will be original games created by their instructors and much, much more. In all the excitement, the children will never realize they are learning the importance of teamwork, along with the awareness of taking turns, sportsmanship and the use of receptive and expressive languages. Their teachers will appreciate the extended, yet subconscious, teachings of reading, vocabulary, math and fine motor skills as well. Come join us today!
