Intermediate Level= 40points
All projects typed or written in blue or black pen neatly and in final form. When choosing projects, choose ones that you will do well on. Artistic ability is included in grade. Each option is worth 20 points each. You must earn 40 points before moving on to the advanced level. Choose 2.
- Design and construct, 3D, a new and different book cover for the novel. Must include a front picture and a 3-paragraph book review on the back.
- Write a 5-paragraph letter from Phillip when he is 30 to one of the other characters explaining how and why his life has changed. Must be believable.
- Write a 3-paragraph movie review with a listing of cast members from today’s society. Must use examples from the newspaper. Draw on poster board a billboard advertising NBTT movie with new current cast members.
- Write a 5-paragraph article for a local newspaper covering the events of the story. Use examples from the newspaper such as the who, what, when, where, and how? (Use Act 17 worksheet—for guidance)
- Construct a school yearbook with individual and group pictures of all the characters in the novel. Must include a written physical description of each character, what activities they participate in, etc.
- Read the entire novel on videocassette. Must use enthusiasm and dialect in voice. You may work with a partner. Each partner will receive the same grade.
- Deliver one of Ted Griffen’s campaign speeches aloud to the class. Remember you really want your audience’s votes! ( Must memorize speech, use eye contact, voice inflection, and be 3-5 minutes in length)
- Write and illustrate descriptions of the novel’s settings each on its own sheet of paper: Harrison High, Miss Narwin’s homeroom, the Malloys’ house, and Philip’s bedroom.
- Write and illustrate physical descriptions of the novel’s characters each on its own sheet of paper.
- Construct a quality and challenging test for NBTT. You must have 5
true/false, 5 multiple choice, 5 fill in the blanks, and 1 essay question. You must also write an answer key to all questions.

- Write a different ending chapter, 2-3 pages, to the novel. Must be believable.
- Create a 10-minute dialogue of interview questions and answers. Must videotape and act out interview questions and answers. You may work with one partner from your class—partners will receive the same grade. You must bring all materials with you to present to the class.
- Create and videotape a 10-minute play of a sequel to the novel. You may work with one partner from your class—partners will receive the same grade. You must bring all materials with you to present to the class.
- Construct and write a children’s book with pictures and words about the theme within the novel.
- Write a 50-line poem about a character, the novel, or a scene of the novel.
