Engineering Manager
The Engineering Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the engineering, and cost estimating functions. Serves with other department heads in the formulation and administration of corporate strategies and policies. The Engineering Manager will oversee and guide the work of the engineering department, managing the day-to-day operations of engineering projects and interfacing with other departments as needed. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for the flawless launch of new products and for the hand-off of stable processes to operations. He/she will also support operations with quality and process related problem solving, and guide process engineers and technicians. The Engineering Manager will report to the Plant Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes, methods and equipment in accordance with product specifications and quality standards
- Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls, confers with management, engineering and other departments regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to maximize efficiencies
- Supervise, lead, direct, support and provide development for the Engineering Department, consisting of, but not limited to, the engineering staff and the support staff
- Directs and coordinates cost estimating activities related to the design and building of tooling, fixtures, machinery, or other equipment as required and to the production of parts
- Plans, directs and reviews analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine department progress toward stated goals and objectives
- Directs and coordinates activities of the engineering function, and delegates responsibility for the attainment of goals and objectives
- Supports in technical sales activities and partners with customer’s engineers to offer value added solutions
- Confers with other administrative personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from current status and conditions
- Partner with Level 3 to design and implement continuous improvement programs in the areas of cost/productivity, quality and service to ensure the accomplishment of annual and long-term business goals and objectives in the plant
- Participates in formulating and administering company policies and developing long-range goals and objectives
- Assures that all tasks are performed in a safe and responsible manner
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Engineering employees and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising, performance; rewarding, and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/ or EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferred, together with a minimum of 10- 15 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ERP, SOX and P&L responsibilities
- Knows and practices engineering principles and procedures
- Knows basic capability of standard mold making machinery
- Has a thorough knowledge of plastic resins and how they relate to tool design and processing
- Experienced in the development of related engineering projects in addition to those related to injection tools such as fixtures, hot stamping, ultrasonic welding, or the design of equipment utilized in other secondary operations
- Able to critique mold designs to create improvements in different types of applications for parts
- Possesses the technical ability to critique and evaluate tooling design and to evaluate and solve problems related to trouble shooting, processing, and manufacturing
- Possesses the technical ability to critique and evaluate special projects such as robotics, automated assembly machinery, and other specialized equipment
- Lean manufacturing experience required
- Problem solving and analytical skills are required
- Ability and willingness to travel to visit prospective and current customers, suppliers and manufacturing locations as needed

- Proficient in standard Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
CERTIFICATION/TRAINING REQUIRED
Professional Engineer (PE), preferred.
