Full time (35 hours per week) @ £24-28,000 per annum. Based in London.

Role Purpose:

The Digital Marketing and Communications Officer is responsible for increasing Peace Direct’s digital communications output with target audiences in order to increase our profile, income, advocacy and engagement with donors. The postholder will update and create content on all online communication channels (website, email marketing, social media etc), under the direction of the CEO and, where appropriate, the Head of Individual Giving. The postholder will also develop and manage day-to-day interactions with supporters and contacts via social media channels including Facebook and Twitter.She or he will provide editorial, creative and operational support across Peace Direct’s work and will play a key role in ensuring our communications are both influential, engaging and informative for the full range of our stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting, editing and publishing content on Peace Direct’s websites ( and using Peace Direct’s content management system (Wordpress)
  • Managing SEO of online content (including Google adwords). Developing and monitoring tracking systems that will enable accurate evaluation of the cost effectiveness and value of all online activities, using Google Analytics, Facebook insights, Twitter analytics, amongst other tools. Adjusting activity to continually increase the quantity and quality of digital engagement.
  • Daily management of online communications with all target audiences to increase engagement and growth.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of digital engagement/marketing strategies, under the direction of the CEO
  • Drafting and editing copy (online and offline) for all departments as required by key staff, particularly the Head of Individual Giving.
  • Support the implementation of Peace Direct’s fundraising strategy and other cross departmental strategies
  • Support the design and implementation of new digital activities to reach key audiences, to test and roll out these new activities

Reports to: CEO (direct line) and Head of Individual Giving (dotted line)

Line management responsibilities: none, though occasional supervision of interns

Person Specification

Essential

Technical skills/experience

  • Educated to degree level, preferably in Digital Communications, Journalism or other related field
  • Proven track record of using digital and traditional marketing to achieve organisational objectives
  • Extensive experience knowledge of social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc), strategy and integration with fundraising/marketing
  • Experience of developing integrated communications, PR or marketing campaigns, using a range of approaches
  • At least 2 years’ experience in producing digital content for a commercial organisation or charity
  • At least 2 years’ experience of editing content produced by staff
  • Passion for digital communications
  • Demonstrable ability to write high quality compelling content, aimed at different audiences
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Proficiency in managing a website content management system
  • Highly proficient in MS Word and Ms Excel

Desirable technical skills/experience

  • Post graduate degree in digital communications, marketing, journalism, peace studies or another related field
  • Proven experience of dealing with reactive media including issues and crises management planning and handling
  • Experience of using DTP software such as InDesign
  • Experience of using Google Analytics
  • French language skills
