Environmental Policy

Accommodation & Hospitality Services are committed to minimising the impact of its services, activities and products on the environment.We have developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) to achieve this in a structured way.The key points of our strategy are:-

  • Communication and Management

Through communication, management andtraining we promote a culture of environmental awareness for all our stakeholders*.

  • Energy Saving and Water Use

We aim to reduce energy and water consumption by increasing consumer understanding and using practical solutions. We are committed to Carbon Reduction and will support University targets.

  • Waste Management

We endeavour to reduce waste, recycle and re-use wherever possible.

  • Purchasing

We seek to source products from suppliers who share our environmental values and whenever possible to repair rather than replace. We will consider environmental efficiency and product lifecycle in our purchasing decisions.

  • Transport

The University has a Green Transportscheme in place which we actively support so that staff and customers canreduce their carbon footprint.

  • Community

We encourage staff to engage in environmental projects which benefit the wider community.

  • Legislation

We aim to meet or exceed environmental legislation that relates to our business and with requirements related to environmental aspects.

Commitment to:

  • Improve communication through induction, training, website, literature/folders.
  • Raise awareness and encourage a culture of environmental and social responsibility to achieve commitment from all stakeholders*.
  • Continually improve mechanisms to measure repair, reduction and recycling levels.
  • Continually evaluate the operations and ensure we are as efficient as possible
  • Prevention of pollution from our activities, services and products.
  • Incorporate environmental good practice in refurbishments and capital projects.
  • Regularly monitor progress and review performance to ensure ongoingimprovement in accordance with BSEN ISO 14001
  • Establish specific and measurable annual objectives that relate to our environmental policy which are agreed at the A & HS Health, Safety & Environment Executive Committee annually.
  • Undertake an annual management review of the policy to ensure it is relevant and up to date.
