Dear Parent,
The Davis High School Summer, 2015 Driver’s Education Program will begin soon. The first session will start on Monday, May 18th. The second session will start on Monday, July 6th.
Both sessions will consist of two weeks of classroom instruction from 9:00 till noon in Mr. Shilling’s classroom in the Middle School. Driving sessions will be from 1:00 until 4:00 for the first two weeks. Thereafter, there will be driving sessions in the morning and the afternoon. Students will be scheduled to drive and you will receive a copy of this schedule.
Students must be 15 years of age when the class begins. The cost of the class is $150. The Oklahoma Driver’s Manual is not provided, but can be purchased at the Tag Office in Ardmore, Ada, or Pauls Valley. The cost is around $6. The manual is also available online at
To pass Drivers Education, a student must be present for all 30 hours of classroom instruction, achieve at a satisfactory level on the written final, and must drive under the instructor’s supervision for six hours. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Our Driver’s Ed vehicle is equipped with an auxiliary brake and warning markings. We will begin all driving sessions at the Superintendent’s Office, east of the Middle School. The driving progression will include basic maneuvering, in-town driving, main highway driving, backroad driving (winding and hilly roads), parking procedures, interstate driving, mid-size town driving (including one-way streets), and metroplex driving. Be assured that I will not put your child in a situation for which they are not ready.
I will attempt to keep to the schedule. However, as you know, road and traffic conditions may occasionally cause a delay. If we are going to be more than 15 minutes late, I will have your child contact you by phone. I will also let the next drivers know of the delay.
My cell phone number is 580-369-0588. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me.
Our daily program from the classroom portion of the class can be accessed via . Click on Classes/Homework, High School, Driver’s Ed.
You have my promise that I will closely guard the safety and well-being of your child. It is a responsibility that I take very seriously.
Thank You
Tom Shilling
