LEARNING DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION

General:

The Learning Development Manager will be expected to support the aims and objectives of the school. To ensure that the Year group(s) is/are managed to enable personal excellence to be developed by all pupils and a sense of pride is developed in the Year group and the school.

Pastoral Management:

  1. to create a team ethos with the Tutors;
  2. to support the work of the Tutors;
  3. to monitor the work of the Tutors;
  4. to take assemblies for the Year group(s) as necessary;
  5. to advise the Head of Faculty about issues relating to the Year group(s);
  6. to be the first port of call for parents, after the Tutor, in relation to student behaviour and barriers to learning;
  7. to be an exemplary leader in dealings with staff, students, parents and outside agencies;
  8. Meetings with parents, before school after school

Curriculum Management:

  1. to liaise with Heads of Faculty/Department regarding student achievement;
  2. to support the delivery of the citizenship and PSHE curriculum;
  3. to support the development of assessment and recording procedures;

Student Management:

  1. to support students in their learning, and encourage positive attitudes and behaviour in and around school;
  2. to assist in the transition arrangements at the beginning and end of the year;
  3. to monitor punctuality and attendance, liaising with Tutors, the EWO, the student support officer and Heads of Faculty as required;
  4. to encourage and develop parental contacts with Tutors with Tutors and others as appropriate;
  5. to liaise with learning Mentors, Connexions Personal Advisors a necessary for the Year Team;
  6. to liaise with outside agencies, including assisting with the preparation of reports of various kinds;
  7. to liaise with individual teachers, departments and faculties in relation to behaviour and learning of individual and groups of students;
  8. to develop the role of the Year Council and get students more actively involved in school life;
  9. to take any measures necessary to improve Year group(s) attendance including holding attendance reviews and rewarding good attendance through assemblies and other measures;
  10. to take a lead in managing behaviour of the Year group(s) by Championing the Behaviour to Success System and Rewards for success;
  11. to be on call and be available for students in the Year group(s) throughout the day;
  12. to have an input into organisation of Parents’ Consultation and information evenings;

Professional:

  1. to carry out such other duties and responsibilities as may be agreed with the Headteacher;

This Job Description will be reviewed annually with the headteacher.

Appendix I

This is a full time post following the school holiday pattern. Due to the nature of the role,commitments during the school holidays are much reduced. In recognition of this the post holder is sometimes required to work outside of the school day with specific events that relate to their year group(s). Examples of such events are as follows.
