Learning Outcomes

By completing this task you will be able to:

·  Form letters using their bodies, arms and legs

·  Demonstrate the limitations of their bodies

·  Practice cooperation skills

Preparation and Materials

·  5 -10 letter words written on strips of paper and a grab can

Method


1. Briefly explain how the body works in terms of joints, large bones, and large muscles.
2. Explain that there are many distinctive shapes that our bodies can do.
3.Demonstrate a couple ( ex. T, I, X )
4. Explain how our joints are important and their limitations.

Instructions


Divide class into groups of 6.
Have each group designate a leader.
Leaders come up and select a word from the grab can.
Leaders go back to the group without letting the other groups know what the word is.
The leaders quietly let their group know what the word is.
The leaders pick the number of group members needed to spell out the word using their bodies, arms and legs. Then practice the word.
The other groups will try to guess what the word is.

Closure


1. Ask students what were the hardest words to form.
2. Ask students what were the hardest letters to form.
3. Have groups stand in two straight lines and form and spell the words you dictate.

·  Identify differences between a joint, a bone and a muscle.

·  Make different shapes using their bodies.

·  Cooperate appropriately with others in your class.
