Cardboard Citizens

This role is ideal for a motivated individual looking to make a real impact through their work and deepen their skills in arts fundraising, particularly within trusts, foundations and bid-writing. Whether moving from another arts organisation or from the third sector into the arts, the candidate will have a range of transferrable skills and the desire to work in a creative environment.

The Trusts & Foundations Officer willplay a key role in helping to shape the company’s future and establish Cardboard Citizens as a leading arts organisation working with and for people affected by homelessness. Fundraising is an integral part of Cardboard Citizens, supported by every department and demonstrating year-on-year growth. The Company have committed to an ambitious future, and as such an increased investment in the fundraising team, including the new role ofTrusts & Foundations Officer to help maintain, diversify and grow our income streams.

Cardboard Citizens uses the transformative power of the arts toeducate, inspire and empower homeless and displaced people.At an exciting point in Cardboard Citizens’ history, the Trusts & Foundations Officer will help us continue to develop our artistic programme and national reach, whilst capitalising on the increased exposureprovided by our25th anniversary celebrations.

Key objectives of the post

To support the team in securing £1.3m in fundraised income every year, particularly through Trusts & Foundations:

  • Prospecting & researching – proactively identifying sources of income for our programmes of work
  • Soliciting – writing detailed and compelling proposals for funders
  • Stewarding – managing relationships with funders and producing project reports as required

Main duties

Prospecting & Researching

  • Proactively identify funding opportunities within Cardboard Citizens’ programme of work, maintaining effective communication with all relevant departments
  • Research and identify previously untapped streams of income, such as family foundations, liveries and corporate foundations
  • Conduct and produce detailed research reports on prospects for Cardboard Citizens, as required by the department
  • Support the department in preparing annual fundraising plans, based on information gained through research and wider sector knowledge
  • Maintain accurate records of research, correspondence and funder engagement on Cardboard Citizens’ database

Soliciting

  • Cultivate potential supporters and liaise with on prospective applications, building strong working relationships
  • Write high quality grant proposals tailored to funder requirements and interests, in liaison with the Development Manager and relevant programme staff members

Stewarding

  • Build strong relationships with existing funders, stewarding them across the grant period and beyond where appropriate
  • Create detailed project reports demonstrating the impact and value of our work
  • In conjunction with Development Manager, ensure regular communication with funders as appropriate regarding Cardboard Citizens’ shows, workshops and news, enabling as many as possible to attend at least one performance, workshop or visit per year
  • Manage all acknowledgement and publicity needs of donating trusts and foundations to ensure that all necessary credits are given where appropriate
  • Attend Cardboard Citizens’ events to support the hosting of funders and supporters as required

Person Specification

Essential:

  • At least oneyear of experience within the arts and/or fundraising
  • Interest in the arts and issues around homelessness
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills with close attention to detail
  • Strong numeracy skills
  • Ability to communicate and engage with a wide range of people
  • Excellent planning skills and good time management
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work in a busy environment and manage a varied workload
  • Self-motivation when working alone and as part of a team
  • Completion of undergraduate degree

Desirable:

  • Two years or more of experience working in a fundraising position
  • Experience specifically of trust or foundation bid-writing
  • Knowledge of the fundraising landscape
  • Experience of using databases
  • Knowledge of Data Protection procedures
  • Access to useful contacts
