TCOVE Desktop Publishing
Course Description:
The goal of this Business class is to equip you with computer skills that will better enable you to compete in the world-at-large. In Desktop Publishing, you will gain professional skills and experience by producing high quality and creative documents by using powerful desktop publishing software. You will create advertising circulars, newspaper layouts, programs, pamphlets, and many more. In addition, you will further develop proper touch-typing techniques. The topics covered in this course include:
Working knowledge of the keyboard, computer, and printer
Computer Hardware and Software
Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop
Scanners
Clip Art and other graphics
Internet
Expectations:
Be prepared and on time every day! You will participate through computer assignments, projects, and simulated business activities. Work is completed in class; therefore, you must use your time wisely!
ASSIGNMENTS:
Turn in all assigned work on the DUE DATE specified by the instructor. If you are absent, the assignment is due the day you return; otherwise, the work will not be accepted. Only an EXCUSED ABSENCE will allow the student to turn in assigned work.
TESTS:
Tests are performance based. If a test must be missed because of an EXCUSED ABSENCE, the test must be made up when you return to school or by teacher recommendation. The format for a make-up test may differ from that of the original test. Generally, make-up tests are more difficult and therefore should be avoided.
ATTENDANCE & TARDIES:
The school wide attendance policy is strictly enforced. It is posted in the classroom. Concepts are taught in class; therefore, you should make every effort to attend all class sessions. If you are tardy, disrupt class, or area behavior problem, you will receive a step in accordance with the school’s Assertive Discipline Policy.
PARTICIPATION:
During the class period, you will concentrate on the assignments for THIS CLASS ONLY! Steps will be given for noncompliance with this basic class rule. Also, because this is a Business Class, proper business atmosphere will be required. Therefore, you are responsible for conducting yourself in an ethical, polite, and civil manner. That means to your fellow students and me!

GRADING:
Points will be given for each assignment. The grading is based upon the following point scale:
97% - 100%A+77% - 79%C+
93% - 96%A73% - 76%C
90% - 92%A-70% - 72%C-
87% - 89%B+67% - 69%D+
83% - 86%B63% - 66%D
80% - 82%B-60% - 62%D-
Assignments will consist of:
Assignments: You will engage in a variety of assignments using Adobe PageMaker and other available software programs. Assignments are generated from the skills and abilities you are currently learning, and are generally worth 10 points each. One or two points may be awarded for outstanding and extra work; however, points will be deducted for below and/or poor quality work.
Projects: One Final Project will be assigned at the end of the semester. It will involve integration of the software applications learned in this class. The project accounts for a substantial part of the final grade.
Portfolio: Projects address many of the ESLR components and are recommended to be showcased in your Senior Portfolio.
