Ministry Action Teams

A Ministry Action Team (MAT) is a team of MSBC members that have joined together for one specific purpose to use their gifts and talents to serve God and the members of the church or the community.

1.WELCOME MAT

Scope of Ministry: Visitors and New Members

Purpose: Assure that visitors feel welcomed and new members are fully familiar with the policies and

procedures of MSBC. There are two components of the WELCOME MAT: the Greeter's Ministry and

the New and Maturing Members Class.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To welcome and direct visitors as they enter the parking lot and the building for worship. (Greeter's

Ministry)

b. To facilitate the New and Maturing Members Class.

  1. To follow up with new members to assist them in navigating through the church structure

(Greeter's Ministry)

2.BUILDING MAT

Scope of Ministry: Church-wide

Purpose: Provide opportunity for members to mature in their attitude and experience in financially

supporting the church.

General Responsibilities:

a.To establish an “Increased Giving Campaign” that will involve all members.

  1. To work with all ministries to develop a “team approach” to making contributions to the genera

and building funds.

  1. To assess opportunities for the expansion of the church and the amount of finances needed to

meet future growth needs.

d.To facilitate a Budgeting Workshop.

3.LEADERSHIP MAT

Scope of Ministry: Coordinators, Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers, Chaplains,

Committee Chairpersons, and Annual Day Chairpersons.

Purpose: Educate officers on how to function in their roles

General Responsibilities:

  1. To organize a group of skilled trainers to teach leaders.
  2. To facilitate a workshop on an annual basis on how to function in leadership roles.

4.NURSERY MAT

Scope of Ministry: Infants, Toddlers, and Pre-School Age Children

Purpose: Provide care for infants and toddlers while their parents/guardians attend worship service.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To provide quality care for small children.
  2. To help small children learn to play together and share with one another.
  3. To teach children in the Nursery about the love of Jesus.

5.DRILL MAT

Scope of Ministry: Youth and Young Adults

Purpose: Provide an opportunity for members to learn the books of the Bible, Bible verses, and Christian

Principles in an organized, disciplined, motivating method.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To learn step routines.
  2. To learn books of the Bible, Bible verses, and Christian principles to chant during step routines.
  3. To perform routines during worship services as approved by Pastor.
  4. To perform routines during “Youth Night Out.”

6.YOUNG MEN OF INTEGRITY MAT

Scope of Ministry: Leadership ministry for males 12--24

Purpose: Provide an opportunity for youth and young men ages 12-24 to assist one another in growing

Into mature Christians.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To work with YWI in organizing a "Youth Night Out” that will involve activities attractive to

youth of all ages.

  1. To work with YWI to assist the Pastor in planning the "Youth for Christ Week.”
  2. To establish a venue for youth and young men to discuss topics relevant to their

generation for the purpose of keeping them grounded in the principles of God.

7. YOUNG WOMEN OF INTEGRITY MAT

Scope of Ministry: Leadership ministry for females 12 -24

Purpose: Provide an opportunity for youth and young women ages 12-24 to assist one another in

Growing into mature Christians.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To work with YMI in organizing a “Youth Night Out" that will involve activities attractive to youth of

all ages.

  1. To work with YMI to assist the Pastor in planning the “Youth for Christ Week.”
  2. To establish a venue for youth and young women to discuss topics relevant to their generation

for the purpose of keeping them grounded in the principles of God.

8. MEN'S FELLOWSHIP MAT

Scope of Ministry: Men of MSBC.

Purpose: Provide an opportunity for the men of the church to mature in their walk with Christ

General Responsibilities:

a.To plan activities for men of the church to fellowship with one another.

b.To plan activities for men to interact in a positive way with youth of the church and in the community.

  1. To plan activities to assist men in growing in their relationship with Christ.

9. WOMEN'S FELLOWSHIP MAT

Scope of Ministry: Women of MSBC.

Purpose: Provide an opportunity for the women of the church to mature in their walk with Christ

General Responsibilities:

  1. To plan activities for women of the church to fellowship with one another.
  2. To plan activities for women to interact in a positive way with youth of the church and in the

community.

c.To plan activities to assist women in growing in their relationship with Christ .

10. SINGLES MAT

Scope of Ministry: Ministry for all Unmarried Adults.

Purpose: Provide an opportunity for unmarried adults to engage in Christian fellowship

General Responsibilities:

a.To plan activities that will enhance the fellowship of unmarried adults in the church.

b. To plan activities that will help unmarried adults grow in Christ.

11. MARRIED COUPLES MAT

Scope of Ministry: Ministryfor all Married Couples and Parents.

Purpose: Provide an opportunity for married couples to mature in their relationship with one another

as the backbone of strong families.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To plan activities for married couples to learn and mature into model spouses.
  2. To plan activities for married couples to mature into model Christians.
  3. To plan activities for parents to learn parenting skills.

12. SENIOR ADULT MAT

Scope of Ministry: Ministry for all Senior Citizens.

Purpose: Provide an opportunity for senior citizens to use their gifts and talents in the church.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To plan activities for senior citizens to participate in various ministries at the church.
  2. To assist Pastor in planning a Senior Citizen Appreciation Day.
  3. To assist Pastor in planning the Grand Parent’s Day Celebration.
  4. To plan activities to increase the knowledge of senior citizens about subjects relevant to them

at this stage of life (i.e. health care, wills, etc.)

13.HOMEBOUND MAT

Scope of Ministry: Homebound members, both Nursing Home residents and shut-ins who are not

expected to return to church for a long period of time.

Purpose: Provide encouragement and spiritual uplifting.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To visit the homebound.
  2. To communicate with the homebound with cards and phone calls.
  1. To minister to the homebound, meeting spiritual needs and performing helpful acts of practical

service.

  1. To sponsor occasional church-wide projects to show love to our homebound.

14.BEREAVEMENT MAT

Scope of Service: Church Members that have lost loved ones.

Purpose: Provide comfort and assistance to members who have experience the tragedy of death in their

Families.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To communicate with the bereaved through visits, cards, and phone calls.
  2. To communicate the death of the loved one to the church body.
  3. To assist bereaved in planning the homegoing ceremony for their loved one.
  4. To mobilize the church in responding to the needs of the bereaved.

15.OUTREACH MAT

Scope of Service: Church members and the community.

Purpose: Provide services to meet the emergency needs of church members and members of the community that have fallen into hard times.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To address emergency needs for food and clothing.
  2. To sponsor occasional church-wide projects to meet the needs of the less fortunate (i.e.,

sponsor families for Christmas; working with Sunday School to sponsor families during Thanksgiving, etc.)

c. To engage church in assisting indigent members in meeting emergency home repair needs.

16.SUBSTANCE FREE MAT

Scope of Ministry: Former and Recovering Substance Abusers

Purpose: Provide a spiritual suppor1 system for individuals who have struggled with overcoming strongholds.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To educate members on the power of God to overcome strongholds.
  2. To provide opportunities for members to meet on a regular basis to encourage a substance free

lifestyle.

c. To encourage members to rely on the power of God.

17. MARKETING MAT

Scope of Ministry: Church-wide

Purpose: Provide support to pastor, officers, and ministries in promoting overall church objectives and

activities.

General Responsibilities:

a.To assist Pastor in developing and updating church brochure.

b.To assist ministries in developing brochures/flyers to promote their activities.

  1. To draft and distribute announcements for media regarding church activities as approved by the

Pastor and/or ministry involved.

  1. To develop and maintain church Web site.

18. DECORATING MAT

Scope of Ministry: Church-wide

Purpose: Provide attractive surroundings for visitors and church members.

General Responsibilities:

a.To decorate fellowship hall, vestibule, and other areas of church as needed.

  1. To assist Wedding MAT when called upon.

19.WEDDING MAT

Scope of Ministry: Wedding Couples

Purpose: Provide direction and support for couples planning weddings at MSBC.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To act as a liaison between the Pastor and wedding party.
  2. To communicate Pastor's requirements regarding the ceremony and the church policy including

The arrangement of furniture, etc. to wedding party.

c.To plan access to the church for wedding rehearsals, weddings, and receptions.

d.To help coordinate weddings as needed.

e.To engage the Decorating MAT if needed by wedding party.

20.EMPLOYMENT SKILLS MAT

Scope of Ministry: Individuals seeking employment or desiring to enhance their job seeking skills.

Purpose: Provide job preparation training and knowledge of employment opportunities.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To plan a job readiness workshop that will address skills needed to successfully compete

for employment.

  1. To develop a “Tips for Employment” guide.
  2. To identify employment opportunities in the community and communicate to membership.
  3. To answer questions that members have regarding employment issues.

21.HEALTH CARE MAT

Scope of Ministry: Church-wide

Purpose: Provide opportunities for members to become more knowledgeable about healthy lifestyles.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To plan events to enhance the awareness of members about high risk diseases.
  2. To plan health screening activities.

c. To work with Senior Adult MAT to plan activities that will address questions of the aging population.

22.OFFICE MAT

Scope of Ministry: Administration and Ministries

Purpose: Provide clerical assistance to administrative staff and ministries.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To assist church secretary and church clerk in typing, copying and assembly work as needed.
  2. To assist ministries in typing programs and other material as needed.
  3. To assist ministries in copying and assembling material as needed.
  4. To maintain an up-to-date list of churches in the Roanoke Valley.

23.SOUND SYSTEM MAT

Scope of Minis![y: Worship and Other Church Services

Purpose: Provide quality sound support for services that are held at the church.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To cut on and off the sound system during and after services.
  2. To assure sound system is working properly.
  3. To assist Pastor, visiting ministers, musicians, etc. in maintaining quality sound during worship

24.COORDINATOR'S MAT

Scope of Ministry: Coordinators, Directors, and Presidents

Purpose: Unite ministries as a team to support the Pastor's Vision and the activities of the church.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To meet on a regular basis to share ministry objectives and upcoming events.
  2. To support the activities planed by each ministry avoiding scheduling conflicts.
  3. To assist Building MAT in developing a “team approach” to making contributions to the general

and building funds.
