Installing the Chain of Trust into Firefox (Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7)
Introduction
Your digital certificate facilitates the secure exchange of data between yourself and the Department of Human Services – Medicare master program.
After receiving and installing your certificate you may need to configure your browser in order to successfully transmit and receive data.
Assumption
This document assumes that Firefox is already installed on your computer.
Operating System
Operating system required:
Windows XP
Windows Vista
Windows 7
Please follow the attached instructions to install the Chain of Trust into your Firefox browser.
This guide has been written using Firefox 23. If your computer has a different version of Firefox, there may be slight differences getting to the dialog box required.

Step 1:
Download the 3 Chain of Trust certificates from the Medicare website - see link below:
Select the ‘Save’ button and save each certificate to your desktop.
Step 2:
Open your Firefox browser.
Step 3:
Select the ‘Tools’ menu.
Select ‘Options’. The Options dialog box is displayed.

Step 4:
Select the ‘Advanced’ tab.
Select the ‘Certificates’ tab.
Select the ‘View Certificates’ button. The Certificate Manager dialog box is displayed.

Step 5: Installing the ‘Medicare Australia Organisation Certificate’.
Select the ‘Authorities’ tab.
Select the ‘Import’ button. The import dialog box is displayed.

Step 5A:
Navigate to the desktop where you saved the Medicare Australia OrganisationCA.cer certificate as highlighted above.
Select the ‘Medicare Australia Organisation CA.cer’.
Select ‘Open’. The download certificate dialog box is displayed
Step 5B:
Tick all check boxes on the next screen to trust Medicare Australia CA.
Select ‘OK’. You are returned to the Certificate Manager dialog box.

Step 6: Installing the 2nd ‘Medicare Australia Organisation Certificate’.
Select the ‘Authorities’ tab.
Select the ‘Import’ button. The import dialog box is displayed.

Step 6A:
Navigate to the desktop where you saved the Medicare Australia Organisation CA2 chain of trust.
Select the ‘Medicare Australia Organisation CA2.cer’.
Select ‘Open’. The download certificate dialog box is displayed.
Step 6B:
Tick all check boxes on the next screen to trust Medicare Australia CAs.
Select ‘OK’. You are returned to the Certificate Manager dialog box.

Step 7: Installing the ‘Medicare Australia Root Certificate’.
Select the ‘Authorities’ tab.
Select the ‘Import’ button. The import dialog box is displayed.

Step 7A:
Navigate to the desktop where you saved the Medicare Australia Root chain of trust.
Select the ‘Medicare Australia Root CA.cer’.
Select ‘Open’. – The download certificate dialog box is displayed

Step 7B:
Tick all check boxes on the next screen to trust Medicare Australia CAs.
Select ‘OK’. The Certificate Manager dialog box is displayed.
Step 8:
You should now be able to view the three Medicare Australia trust certificates under ‘ Authorities’ tab under the ‘GOV’ heading as shown above.
Select ‘OK’.
The ‘Chain of Trust’ has been successfully installed into Firefox.
