Lesson 3: Have students look at works of art from Aboriginal style and an American artist anddescribe the story each artists is try to tell (Web Blog) (40minutes)

The following lesson was designed using the Kemp model. This lesson is designed to engage students to explore the Aboriginal culture and art work while comparing them to an American Artist. Student will use a web blog to compare and contrast the two artist work.

Instructional Problems / The instruction problem addressesstudent cultral awareness of the Aborginial cultural comparing and constrasting to an American Artist.
Learner Characteristics: / Grade: Sixth
Age Range: 10-11 year olds
Learner Skills: Interpretation of art work, by comparing and constrasting two artist.Students have knowledge of : (1) using computer skills to contribute to a class web blog.
Task Analysis: / Given images of Aboriginal/ American art work students will: (1) Hypothesize meaning conveyed by artist; (2) discuss works of art using viusal art terminology (3) comparing and constrasting artist.
Technology: contributing to classroom web blog;(2)exhibiting digial citizenship

Sequencing Content / 1. Students will obtain an I-Pad from COW. (3 minutes)
2.Students will independantly work on the computer or I-Pad. Students will choose two imges, one from Aborginial artist one from an American artist. (5 minutes)
3.Students will copy and paste the two images to classroom web blog and compare and constrast the two artists, using proper art terminology. Each artist comparison will constitute minimum of four sentances. (25 minutes)
4.Students will state one piece of information from their artist in classroom discussion. (5minutes)
5. Students will return I-Pad to COW, as they line up. (2minutes)
6. Homework: Students will post to two of their classmates blogs.
Instructional Strategies / *Students will be able to understand and use technologies.
*Students will be able to describe works of art using proper terminology.
*Students who need assistance will recieve peer support followed by teacher support as needed.
* Students with IEP targets will be followed.
Designing the Message: / Students have looked at the Dot Painting from the Aborginial culture, and have a better understanding of how they tell a story. In this lesson students will compare American and Aborginial artist story telling styles. Using Princle of Design and Elements af Art students will discuss each artist. Then they will try to make an educated guess on what story the artist is telling.

Evaluation Instruments: / Formative: Teacher will observe students as they work and will ask speific questions related to artist and computer use.
Summative: Web blog Rubric
Planning: Reverse use of COW (computers on wheels) for continuum of project.
Revising: If internet connection fails all information will be save to a file on desk top/ USB, which can be viewed on Smart Board. Artist works can be displayed on Smartborad, students can write critques on computer paper (Handed in at end of session)
Evaluation: Formative through oberservation while students are working. Summative with Web Blog Rubric.
Management: Time management is essential keeping students on track as computers will be reversed for this lesson.
