Edwardian Group London announces charity partnership with Cancer Research UK to help fund theFrancis Crick Institute
08April 2015–Edwardian Group London has announced it will be an official corporate fundraising partner to Cancer Research UK for the next three years. Funds will go to the Francis Crick Institute, a world-leading centre of biomedical research and innovation due to open in 2016.
The hospitality group has committed to raising fundsfor the Crick,which will see 1,200 scientists coming under one roof to accelerate the rate of progress in tackling the major diseases, such as cancer, facing the global population.
Inderneel Singh, managing director of The May Fair Hotel, said: “We’re delighted to be fundraising for theCrick. It is a fantastic project which will improve global health for many generations to come and will create a world centre of excellence in London.
“Edwardian Group London feels very privileged to be a part of it. We consider ourselves to be an integral part of London with the vast majority of our properties in the capital, so to support such a pioneering initiative through our partnership with Cancer Research UK supports our vision to remain innovative and forward-thinking.”
Russell Delew, director of Major Giving and Appeals at Cancer Research UK, said: “We are delighted that Edwardian Group London has pledged to support us in our aim to raise £100million for the Crick. It will be a world leading centre of discovery into the major diseases which affect us all, and we believe it will help us beat cancer sooner.
“Cancer Research UK receives no government funding, so support from partners like the Edwardian Group London, is vital in ensuring we can continue our life-saving research.”
The Edwardian Group London’s fundraising pledge will be raised via a mixture of donations added to every hotel bill (which guests may opt out from) and by hosting fundraising and in-room giving. Each hotel within the Edwardian Group London portfolio will have the opportunity to take part in fundraising activitiesas well as internally educating all hosts on their wellbeing and raising their awareness of cancer and the possible signs and symptoms.
Five of the Edwardian hosts have committed to running this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon with an ambition to raise £50,000. Cancer Research UK is the official charity of the 2015 London Marathon and all money raised through the event will go towards The Francis Crick Institute.
