PrincipalRole

The principal role is todeliver careers advice work atan Academy based in York.The positionis initiallytowork a totalof48.5 days within the academic year 2016-17.Thiswill equateto 2 days per week over 23 weeks withflexibilitytoprovide additionalweekly supportfortheschool if required (for example parents evenings and results day).

U-Exploreaim todeliver a high quality,flexible and innovativeCEIAGprogramme forthewhole school utilisingtheU-Explore nationalproducts.Themain focusfortheCareersAdviser role is to provide advice around progression opportunitiesand longer-termcareer planning fortheYear11 cohort. Additionallytheadviser will help students, parents, teachers and other school stakeholderstoutilisetheU-Explore careers web resources forcareer and local opportunityexploration.

Therole is focusedon ensuring thatyoung people are excitedabouttheirfutureand all activities are geared towardshelping themtomake realisticchoices abouteducation,trainingand work.In addition,theU-Explore careers adviser will raise aspirationsand challenge stereotypesrelating to career and educationopportunities,ensuring equalityofaccess toopportunitiesforall learners.

We are an outstanding academy with a reputation for academic excellence.

In 2016, 69.4% of our students achieved A*-C in English language or literature and maths, 44.3% achieved the English Baccalaureate and our Progress 8 score was +0.26, showing that significant value was added to our students' attainment throughout their time with us.

Recently we have taken on the role of a National Support School and we are at the heart of the Ebor Teaching Schools Alliance, training the next generation of teachers. We are also a founder member of the Hope Learning Trust, a family of schools working together for transforming education in this area.

SpecificDuties

✓ Specific advice foridentifiedKey Stage4 learners througha range of careers interventions but with the main focusin Autumn and Spring termsbeing 1-to-1careers advice for Year11 learners,with support for teaching staff delivering CEIAG as part of the student enrichment programme. This support will include utilisingtheU-Explorenationalproduct‘Start’and ‘Track’alongside otheradviser and school initiatives.

✓ Assistlearners todraw up actionplans foremployment,educationand training and supportingthemtoachieve thesegoals. Supporting identified learners to widen their aspirations and clarify their understanding of appropriate learning options, both academic and vocational.

✓ Supporttoenable successfulpost-16progression.Thiswill include maintaining and nurturingrelationshipswithlocal post-16 educationalproviders,trainingproviders and local businesses todraw on local expertiseand enhance the Academy’sCEIAG provision.

✓ Ensure thattheprogression oftargetedgroups as identifiedby theschool is closelymonitoredand thatall young people have equal access tosupportand resource.

✓ Therole could also include providing career-focusedenrichmentinterventionsand enterpriseand work-relatedactivitiesatkey transitionpointsfor Years8-11,such as supportingteachingstafftodeliver self-awarenessand opportunityawareness focusedinterventionsrelatingtocareer choices,career aspirationsand lifestylechoices.

✓ Tosupportthepromotionof‘Start’forCEIAGand work relatedlearning at theschool,including assembly talksand encouraging parentstotakean active role in supportingyoung people withtheircareer explorationand decision- making.

✓ Toprovide information,advice and guidance abouta range ofissues such as apprenticeships,careers,education,employmentand academic achievement;in partnershipwithspecialistand supportagencies where necessary.

✓Flexibility to be able to attend Parents’Evenings as directed by the Academy.

✓Keeping up-to-date with labour market information, legislation and professional and academic developments.

✓Responsibility for monitoring outcomes of CEIAG interventions, reviewing and reporting to school SMT.

✓Being an accessible supportive source of knowledge and expertise for the wider teaching team on CEIAG and employability.

Todeliver thespecific duties,therole requires thefollowing skills and experiences:

✓ Qualifiedcareersadvisor-apostgraduatediplomaincareersguidance,NVQ

Level6orequivalentLevel6careersqualificationispreferred.Aminimum

NVQLevel4inCareersGuidance,withexperienceofsuccessfuldeliveryof careers guidance in a school settingis required.

✓InnovativeapproachwithstrongITskillsandideasandinitiativestoinspireand

motivateyoung people.

✓Proventrackrecordofworkingwithyoungpeopleandexperienceofdelivering

professionaladvice and guidance toyoung people in an educationalsetting.

✓ Qualificationin a sociological,educationalor healthrelatedtopics(desirable)
