All of these are quotes from teachers/parents in Tara’s pilot during fall 2001.
· It keeps parents and kids up to date and well informed. I really think parents appreciate any solemn effort to keep in contact with them and inform them of upcoming events, what has been done in the past week, what to look forward too, and honestly to know that they are a part of their child's learning experience.
· My student really enjoyed the post-activities we did after every story.
· I liked the set up of the site though and thought that it made reading enticing to the students who were using it.
· The thing I liked the best was that it was different. Kids are use to reading things and stories on paper; the Internet is a great tool for teaching them that there is other educational material out there that is fun.
· My student was more interested and motivated while reading on the computer than just straight from a book (probably because it was more “hands on”).
· Read from the Web—I thought it was neat that you can use an on-line story from a different site. This allows greater flexibility and choice. It was also neat that you can write your own story.
· The first thing that I liked about this program was the opportunity to individualize each reading lesson according to the unique need of the student. For my student I was able to create a story with larger print and fewer words per page. Another thing that I like about this program was it enables children to incorporate literacy and technology and build their confidence in both areas. Also, this is a very easy to use program. Each area is listed in three steps…prereading, story, postreading. In each area various activities are suggested. One prereading activity that I thought was useful for children is the picture walk and vocabulary review. I also like using rewards when motivating students. This program gives reading and post reading motivational tips!!! These are just a few things that I have enjoyed about Literacy Access Online.
