Position / School Holiday Program Assistant
Department / SEDA Tours & Merchandise
Location / 17 Barrett Street, Kensington
Duration of assignment / Ongoing, every school holidays.
Days & hours of service / Sessions run during the school holidays from Monday to Friday between the hours of 10am to 12pm. Each session also requires 30 minutes for both pre and post session activities.
Volunteering Purpose
To contribute, as a member of Vision Australia Volunteer Services, towards achieving the Organisation’s vision and mission.
Responsibilities*

·  To comply with Vision Australia Policies and Procedures.
·  To maintain a safe and healthy working environment and report any hazardous situations or incidents to your supervisor as soon as possible
·  To attend Volunteer Induction Training and additional training related to role.
·  To ensure client confidentiality and adhere to the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles and Vision Australia Privacy Policy.
·  To complete Volunteer service record sheets.
·  To wear a Vision Australia Volunteer badge when fulfilling Volunteering duties.

Specific Duties
·  Assist the SEDA Program Coordinator and School Holiday Program Leader to successfully run the Paw-some School Holiday Program.
·  Receive ongoing training, support and mentoring from the SEDA Program Coordinator and School Holiday Program Leader.
·  Prepare for each session with the School Holiday Program Leader by setting up program equipment which includes but is not limited to: name badges, tables, chairs, technical equipment and the equipment for each activity.
·  Assist supervising adults to manage the children attending the program.
·  Assist School Holiday Program Leader to welcome attendees to each session and deliver a presentation on SEDA using PowerPoint.
·  Assist School Holiday Program Leader to guide school age children and their supervising adults around the SEDA site with assistance from School Holiday Program Assistants.
·  Assist School Holiday Program Leader with the program’s activities which include but are not limited to the following: site tour, making dog biscuits and playing sensory games.
·  Answer general questions regarding Vision Australia, SEDA and the centre.
·  Handover specific queries, requests for services or follow up to supervisor in a timely manner.
·  Process merchandise sales using the POS system.
·  General cleaning tasks involved in the program which includes but is not limited to: wiping down tables, washing of cooking utensils and clearing of any rubbish created during the program.
Knowledge and Skills
·  Be well presented with a confident and friendly manner.
·  Have experience working with children (preferably school aged) (preferred but not necessary).
·  Possess outstanding communication skills (preferred but not necessary).
·  Have demonstrated experience in working in a small team.
·  High interpersonal skills.
·  Ability to interact and communicate well with others.
·  Thorough understanding of the centre, team and the range of Vision Australia and SEDA services.
·  Money handling skills.
·  Customer service skills.
·  Basic computer skills.
·  Working with children check.
·  Driver’s licences (preferred but not necessary).
·  Awareness of working with people who have a disability or sensory loss.
·  Knowledge of sighted guiding techniques.
Required Training
·  Vision Australia Volunteer Induction Training.
·  Role specific – centre & program information. Training to be provided by supervisor or nominee.
·  Use of Point of Sales system (POS)
·  Registration as a Vision Australia driver
